Default Going for a week vacation dilemma

Hi all, so I have a question and wasn't sure where to add my question but I thought I would add I here ..we got a gift for a vacation of a week in nov and I have a dog and might have my usual sitter coming for the week at my house to sit my dog Keela as usual but I had my Rocky in August and this will be my first time away from him. I work from home 4 days a week so he is out in my office room while I work which is the safe room for him since I have my dog and do not let him in while Rocky is out of cage . My problem is that I would like to keep my Rocky at home while we are away but my friend do not have any experience with bird so I would show him how to clean the cage but I that know my that Rocky a baby will not have any out of cage for a week and not seeing someone during the day since my friend will be going to work I am scare that this will affect him big time.. do you think this can cause major change in him stress/anxiety or should I try to find a bird sitting which so far I found 1 but an hour from my place... any tips would help. I have Rocky for 2 months and our bond is so great I would not want him to be feeling alone for a week and depress

Can your dog sitter spend some extra time in the house before and after work? She could read or talk to Rocky. If he could let him out of the cage in your office, that would be even better.
The sitter could turn the radio on in the morning and turn it off at night. Silence is scary for budgies, and Rocky could be scared when alone in a quiet house.
I have had this situation with my birds over the years. Birds that were bonded to me were bonded afterwards as well.
If you can arrange some company for him, Rocky should be fine.

Hi , yes I would def have the radio on anyway as I do myself have the radio on all day until he goes to bed .. I can probably ask him to let him out In my office but I'm sure it will not be for a long time that is the thing and i am not sure yet how comfortable he is with birds since we just got the news about trip today ...i rather not having him out of cage if he is not comfortable to tell you the truth Rocky is my baby he will probably go for a walk with my dog when he return from work since he did babysit my dog numerous time but Rocky he never did since I just got him 2 months ago...my husband is going to ask him tomorrow if he can babysit my dog for sure but I am thinking of the worst case scenario about Rocky staying home but no out of cage time out me all week

Often Avian vets will board and care for Birds when you are away, this is also a plus as you know they bird is in expert care.
I always have a family member move into my home when we are away as that way the usual routine is not interrupted.
Do you know of any pet sitters in your neighbourhood that could help out. Hope it works out for you.

How big is the cage? Can he jump from perch to perch to get exercise?

I know that sometimes vets offer boarding. I was always afraid that birds can pick up new viruses there.

A neighbourhood sitter would be great.
Recently, a neighbour looked on Facebook for a sitter for their hamster during their one week vacation. I volunteered and had the hamster here for a week. Free of charge, just a favour for neighbours. Check if your neighbourhood has a Facebook group, if you are on FB yourself.

Hi all I am so happy my girlfriend will be babysitting Rocky for the week she knows about birds and she is an animal lover like me .. her boyfriend does have 2 of those huge parrots and she sometimes babysit them so when she told me yes today I was sooooo relieve but I also find a sitter company that I had contacted yesterday in my area and they have professional mature people with lots of animal experience and they had 2 homes available for Rocky that I could visit and pick the one that would fit .. they charge 17$ plus tax per day but if I know he will be in good hand then I don't mind paying ...at least I know now if i need a place for Rocky..if I can't have my friend in the future .. thanks all for all your tip and comments much appreciated

That's great that you were able to find such great resources, Nathalie! I know Rocky will do just fine while you're away

I'm glad your friend will be able to look after Rocky while you are away. It's great you've found other options for future trips if you should need them.

I'm closing the thread at this time.
