Unhappy Removing Their Favourite Swing

It's been awhile since I've had to do this. This is the second time (I think) that I have had to move their swing for the night.
Usually, and everynight, my two female budgies would fight and try to peck/squawk each other off their beloved swing.
I've noticed that Jaeha (green)'s sleeping spot is on the swing (as I see her getting ready to sleep on it and when I uncover the cage, I usually see her there) and Yuuki's (blue) would be on the other swing (but when I uncover, she would be on the ladders).
Anyway, today, it had taken over an hour to try and get them to go to sleep. Jaeha was getting ready to sleep but Yuuki wanted to get the swing so she climbed up the rope toy that was next to the swing and then stayed at the top for ages. She climbed on the ceiling of the cage, the sides of the cage, and from the other swing (which was next to it) and leaned for it, reaching out and from the rope toy. I tried to get her to perch on my finger but it didnt work. I watched over them more but it wasn't getting resolved. Normally, it'd just be a few minutes but this took ages. After like a billion years, I tried to make Jaeha go on the other swing and she did while Yuuki immediately takes the spot (i hoped that Jaeha would stay and just get comfy on the other swing) but then, Jaeha starts to do the same thing Yuuki did. Climbing on the sides of the cage plus ceiling, climbed on the rope toy etc. She then stayed there for another few "years" and I really couldn't think of anything else to do. It had been about 35-40 minutes like this and I noticed them getting extremely sleepy. I tried to cover the cage for a few minutes but it didn't work. I tried giving them time to sort it out themselves bUt it didnt work. They would just wait at the top of the rope toy, watching and waiting for an opportunity to take the swing. After several ages of waiting and discussions with my dad and sis, my sister kept telling me to remove the swing. I didn't want to do it because I felt bad and they loved that swing but I had to because we didn't really have another choice and they were getting extremely sleepy.. I removed the swing and Yuuki got off and onto then rope while Jaeha was still on the rope.
What literally made me so sad and guilty was the both of them just watching me put down the swing and they didn't even budge. They froze for a couple of seconds and then (omg I died) Jaeha started to lean forward to where the swing was and he started to try and find the swing (opening and closing her beak, trying so hard to find the swing perch and trying to use her feet to grip the 'handle'.).. And then Yuuki went as well and did the same thing. So I had two budgies trying desperately to find the swing. :'( They were really reaching out, trying to grip onto the perch, trying to find it. I felt and still feel unbelievably sad because the way they did it, made me feel so bad. I asked my sister many times again whether to put it back in because i felt so sad and she said no no no. Afterwards, I tried to get Jaeha on the top perch so she could sleep but she then went to the other side of the cage, went on the swing that was next to their favourite swing (which I removed) and using that, she tried to reach out as far as she could, trying to find and grip onto their favourite swing. Both of them tried everything
They tried to reach out from the rope toy to the swing, from the swing to the fav swing, from the sides of the cage to the swing.
I literally broke down. I felt so sad. TT^TT
We then turned off the lights, covered the cage, hoping they could get ready for bed, and after a few minutes, I peeked through and I still saw Yuuki on the rope and Jaeha on the swing, still trying to find the swing and/or still waiting for it. I waited another 10-15minutes, peeked through and I see Jaeha on the other swing and Yuuki on the second perch (middle perch of the cage) quiet and getting ready to go to sleep. I felt relieved now but more sad...I really don't want to experience that again, them two trying to find the swing makes me feel depressed and guilty.
I'M SO SORRY YUUKI AND JAEHA. ;_;

That's just a little story I wanted to tell you all. ^^; it's been an extremely long time since this has happened again...
I do have a question though, was it right to remove the swing? Was it too harsh on them?
I really felt absolutely terrible and it felt like I wanted to break in tears omg. The next time I'd go to the pet store, I'll definitely get another swing, the same kind!
I'm only removing the swing for tonight and will be putting it back in tomorrow.

(Here's the photos immediately after I took out the swing. Sorry it's dark.
I'm still feeling extremely bad.. 😭😭😭😭 /cries/)

If your girls weren't fighting for swing, there was no need for you to remove it, especially at night.
Changing perches, toys or any other types of cage accessories at night when a pet bird is about to sleep isn't advisable.
By changing a favourite sleeping spot in such a manner can increase the chances of a night fright.

Any accessory adjustments should be done during the day time, provided the pet birds have the time to acclimate and get used to the changes made on the cage.

Was the favourite swing exactly the same as the other swing?
If not, then in order to avoid bickerings, it would be best to get two identical swings. If the night time bickering comes from the position of the swing, then you can try to change locations and see if the problem is solved.

It's also okay for your budgie to sleep on top of a toy if she chooses to do so.
Some budgies will even sleep on the cage's bars in one of the cage's corners and while this seems an uncomfortable position for us, to them it's considered acceptable.

I will be looking forward to hearing what others with more experience say, but I probably would have just covered the cage and gone to bed. If they weren't actually coming to blows over it, I would have left it to them to work it out.

While it is certainly worth trying getting a second swing identical to the favorite one, I have tried that on occasion and have it turn out that identical items does not necessarily solve the dispute.

I have multiple swings in my budgies' cages and they still sometimes want the swing another bird is on.

I agree that you would have been better off to leave the two budgies to work things out as long as there was no actual aggressive fighting going on.
