Default Toy Suggestions

I was wondering if any of you had suggestions on toys for a bird who doesn't seem to care about them. Discobeats just doesn't seem to care about toys one bit and I always worry he is going to get bored. Whenever I introduce a new toy, I play with it in front of him and leave it in the cage for a week or two. If it's hanging the only thing he might do is perch on it at night.

He likes to forage in his food dish, so I got him a forage toy. Never touched it. I just put a mirror with beads in his cage that the other birds seemed to like. I tried a swing with a bell... he ignored that. Put it with Fluff who is happily trying to destroy the bell.

So any ideas?

Have you tried the Planet Pleasures shredding toys? They are generally a hit, though it takes some budgies a while to start working on them. They tend to like the medium sized ones more than the small ones, but YMMV.

Ummm.... I had to look that (YMMV) up to see what it meant!

Deb, I had no idea what that was either!

I agree, Planet Pleasures are a big hit around here

Thanks! I did get a pack with a bunch of shredding toys in it. Tweet and Fluff love them to death and destroy them within days. I did put one in Discobeats cage, but he just looked at it like "uh huh." I'll try the bigger ones though, see if that makes a difference.

He just seems content just sitting there, doing nothing, with the occasionally chirping and his free time out. (Had him out while fixing Fluff's cage, and he flew right into Fluff's cage and helped himself to Fluff's treat!)

Does he have a swing? Most budgies like them. I have two swings that have beads and leather discs strung on the sides of the swing. Both of my budgies love to alternately swing back and forth and play the beads. Yucca rounds to chew are also a favorite here as are pieces of seagrass mats clipped to the side of the cage. If he is a basher instead of a destroyer, there is a toy one of mine especially enjoys which is small oval discs fastened together with stainless steel rings and little beads that look like pacifiers. I hope you find something he likes!

He has a very plain boring swing. I tried putting a fancier one in there, and he wouldn't touch it. I'll look into those other ideas though, thanks!

Maybe homemade toys might help? Plus they're a lot inexpensive. Here are some that I made in my free time

Ooh thanks for those ideas. I'll have to look into making my own.

I did just spend $40 on a variety of towns. Hopefully there is one there he might like. If not, I'm sure the other three will love them to death (literally!)
