Unhappy Bell for disabled budgie?

I just wrote a whole big thing and of course it disappeared.

Suffice to say, l have a bird who loves toys that make noise. However, since the development of a fatty tumor on her wing and a bum foot, l've yet to find or make a toy that she can easily manipulate to make noise. It breaks my heart to see her try and unable to enjoy what she loves.

Any suggestions, whether from a store or diy, would be welcome.

Hi Katherine,

I love that you are trying to help out your girl enjoying a toy still.
while I have no personal recommendations- I'm sure others might- I frequently use The Natural Bird Company who make toys and things for all sorts of birds.
The best thing about them? They help special needs birds and will help make something to your requirements, so that if you have some ideas of what might be ideal for your budgie, but no one sells, if you can describe it or sketch it, there's a chance they can make it.

Might be worth asking, anyway. here the link: Remedial solutions for parrots with special needs and disabilities

Have you tried one where she pulls a string to ring the bell?

I'm so sorry to hear about your birdie, poor thing.

This might be a completely ridiculous idea, but, I did see a toy online (I think on Pinterest), where they used spoons to create a "spoon clacker" toy. When knocked together, they'll still make a noise for her. And perhaps since a spoon is bigger than an actual bell, it may be easier for her to manipulate, using her beak to push them against each other?

That sounds great! Maybe they're just what she needs. Thanks so much.

I got a drum with a stick on a string. She played with it for a little while, but I don't think she was able to get amount of noise she was hoping for. Good idea, though.

I couldn't get the amount of noise I was hoping for from that drum, but that is what gave me the idea.

You are doing what you can to help yourbird. That idea to contact, The Natural Bird Product Company is a good lead. I also belong to a dog online group. And some of thedogs have injuries that need special equipment to help them. There are people on those sites who have the skill to makealmost anything a dog needs. They have theknowhow. I would think ifyousearched the web and stated what you seek exactly, you may find a person or a shop that could produce just what your bird needs. Good lUCK
