My 3 month old Budgie came with a small metal ID tag on his left leg. It doesn't seem to bother her. I was just wondering what the tag is for? It appears to have some numbers on it, but I can't read any details because it is so small. I bought my Budgie at one of the big petstore chains.
Usually the leg bands will have the ID of the breeder, the year of hatch and the individual number of the chick (pertaining to how many chicks have been raised in one year).
Is your budgie's leg band fully closed? Even for closed leg bands, there can still be problems and in order to avoid a potential accident from happening, you can have the band removed the next time your budgie goes to the avian vet for an appointment.
I agree with aluz and would definitely have the leg band removed as your next Avian Vet appointment.
Further discussion on the topic of leg bands can be seen in this thread:
