Smile Lost but found....

Yesterday afternoon our sweet baby Kiwi (4.5 months) accidentally flew away. My daughter (15yrs) forgot he was on her shoulder. Kids were devastated. He is very tame.
Living near Chicago we only had that night and the next day to find him. The temperature is dropping later today to below 40 and then snow.
They looked for hours into the night. Used our extra cage, bird noises from youtube to attract him, spotlights. Everything. I got home from work and looked past midnight. I only heard him chirp a few times. Finally went to sleep heartbroken. Woke up super early and I heard him chirping away in a giant pine tree. I brought out our bird in his cage and coaxed him down? (He was safely secured in there). They are such a bonded pair I knew he would want to be with him. He flew around for the next hour talking to his brother and then flew to my shoulder! I quickly and gently grabbed him! He did all that with only 2 flight feathers on each side. I feel so blessed and lucky!

Our nandy concur flew away by accident when I was a teenager and I never forgot him.

This only goes to show just how extra careful, focused and attentive we must be when spending quality time with our feathery friends.
I'm very glad that you have managed to rescue Kiwi from the great outdoors and he is now happily settled with his brother.

One of my cockatiels, Poppy, just seems to "fit" on my shoulder and I understand your daughter could forget that Kiwi was there. I have to be very careful to not go into a part of the house with him where somebody might open a door. So happy you got him back.

I'm so happy that you were able to get him back. Too often these stories end in tragedy. Although fortunately that was not the case this time, I agree with Ana that this is precisely why all bird owners should be extra careful.

Great news, I'm glad this ended well for you! You must have been terrified for him.

How lucky you were! Thank goodness . I'm glad it worked out this way. Very cute pic of both. The one on the right of the pic looks like an Easter egg
