Default Teaching your budgies to talk

Hi there,

I have a couple of questions about teaching your budgie(s) to talk. They are as follows:

Is it easier to teach a bird to talk if it is a solo bird?

Is it more difficult to teach them as they get older?

How long per day should you spend trying to teach the bird?

I spend almost everyday with my budgie and he picks up on certain sounds I make eventually I want him to pick up on words too. He's only 7 weeks old and and he's a solo bird If this helps at all..

Hi Rosario,

All budgies can learn to speak. However, it is easier sometimes to teach budgies who are either solo or bonded to humans, because they will want to learn our sounds more. Multiple budgies can learn to talk if they have plenty of human interaction

Don't do sessions longer than 5 or 10 minutes, you can do up to three or four a day depending on how they respond. Just talk to them using repeated phrases that are simple for them to hear.

You can teach an old budgie new tricks, so to speak, but younger budgies definitely pick it up faster. However, just because your budgie isn't a baby doesn't mean s/he will never speak; it depends on the individual bird's personality as well as how much exposure they have to humans speaking around them. We've had members in the past with budgies who are a few years old and suddenly started saying words they had heard repeated.

Best of luck!
