Default Update on Mex and Ice!

Hello everybudgie!

I haven't been on TB lately due to some big life changes. (Good ones though, don't worry.) And I might not be on again for a while because of a big move coming up, so I thought I'd post a quick...ish update on the boys. Well. Not me. They actually wanted to give the updates themselves, and I said that would be alright.

Mexico: "I've been very good lately, unlike my misbehaved brother. Mom says that as long as I'm good, Santa Claws will bring me lots of toys at Christmas time. (She thinks I still believe in Santa Claws, so I just roll with it.) But anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. Ice is so annoying. There's this awesome new swing in our cage, see? And Ice and I both like it a lot. But as soon as I get on it, Ice pushes me off. Then I push him off. Then he pushes me off. Then I push him off. Then he- what's that mom? Oh. Okay. Mom says you get the idea. Guess what else? We're moving soon! All our stuff is mostly packed already! I'm a little nervous, but it's cool. Uh... I can't think of what else to say so I'll just-"

Ice: "Sorry about that everybudgie! My brother likes to ramble. But now it's my turn. I'm very healthy... uh... I'm loud? I... I... am... blue... and I like... toys. And food! And... that's about it. Yeah. That's all. Oh yeah! And mom is gonna get us some new toys soon for Christmas! Some of ours are getting rusty, so I overheard (on purpose, that is) her saying that she had to get us new toys. I don't think I was supposed to hear that, but whatever. So yeah. That's all. You're welcome."

Ahem. So... their updates. Sorry about that! Overall, they are healthy, active, chirpy little guys! I applaud your perseverance if you read this entire post! I will post a picture later! One more thing. I just wondered if, on the drive to our new house, should I have their travel cage on my lap, or on the floor of the car? Thanks in advance,

Tia, Mexico, and Ice (who is the most important one of all)

It sounds like Mexico and Ice are all ready for Christmas, and they're already awaiting their presents .

Best wishes on your move Tia, and at your new home . Will it be a far drive? It doesn't really matter whether they're on your lap or not. Have a cover on the carrier to keep them calm. When I take them to the vet, I seatbelt the carrier in.

I am a paranoid person--or safety conscience, depending on your point of view. In the awful event of an accident, a bird cage on your lap would likely be crushed by the airbag, assuming you are in a front seat.

Thank you! It won't be a far drive at all, thankfully only about 20-30 minutes, I think. I'll definitely remember to cover them. Especially with the weather getting colder.

I won't be sitting in the front seat, actually, so I might end up carrying them on my lap.

Oh, and sorry about that last bit on the first post. Ice snuck that in right before I posted.

Great update.

Good luck on your move. If you'll be sitting in the back seat, having the cage on your lap will be just fine.

Best wishes!

Tia, I'm glad everybudgie's doing well! They sound like rowdy little chaps

I hope that the move is a success, I hope to hear about it when you are properly settled

Perhaps they would like an additional swing for Christmas so that they don't bicker over the other one?

Faerybee; thanks! And okay, thank you for the reassuring words.

Star; that's actually spot on! Check out my pet store haul from today:

If you look closely, you can see that their are some toys missing from the jw colour/toy swing, so that'll have to be returned.

And here are the boys in all their glory!

Aw, I love Mexico and Ice! Such lucky little boys . I know they'll love their new things. It should be no problem to exchange the round swing for a good one. I like those.

Default Moving Day(s)

Well, after a lot of time, patience, and millet, Mexico and Ice are finally settled into their cage at our new house.
We still have a lot of work to do, but the big move is done. (Thank goodness!)

Here's how it went:

Yesterday morning I woke the boys up, and let them chill for a while before emptying their cage of everything. I hooked up the travel cage and stuck some millet in it. Well over an hour later, they finally hopped in! I then covered three sides and the top of the cage with a blanket. They were moved around once or twice throughout the day, in order to move some furniture, but not too crazy much.
At the end of the day, they were covered up and carried to the car in the dark. They let out some confused chirps on the way to the car and on the drive, but seemed to be fine. (As long as country music was playing. )
I did not end up carrying them on my lap though. What I did was buckle them in a seat in the middle row of the car. There were others in the car to make sure nothing went wrong back there.
Once at the new house, I decided to let them stay in the travel cage overnight. This was because I didn't like the idea of so much stress in one evening. Overnight they were fine, thankfully.
This morning I hooked them up again to their big cage, and Ice hopped in quickly with some millet. Problem was, Mexico couldn't figure out where the door was to join him! *Facepalm* After waiting to see if he would figure it out, Ice went back into the small cage instead! So I had to surrender.
I tried again this evening, and they finally went in. Much to my chagrin, because I wanted them in it in the morning, so they had time to settle. But, oh well. That's life.

Sorry for the long post! I came to post as soon as they were in, so it was all fresh in my mind.

Thanks for reading!

-Tia, Mexico, and Ice.
