Well, after a lot of time, patience, and millet, Mexico and Ice are finally settled into their cage at our new house.
We still have a lot of work to do, but the big move is done. (Thank goodness!)
Here's how it went:
Yesterday morning I woke the boys up, and let them chill for a while before emptying their cage of everything. I hooked up the travel cage and stuck some millet in it. Well over an hour later, they finally hopped in!
I then covered three sides and the top of the cage with a blanket. They were moved around once or twice throughout the day, in order to move some furniture, but not too crazy much.
At the end of the day, they were covered up and carried to the car in the dark. They let out some confused chirps on the way to the car and on the drive, but seemed to be fine. (As long as country music was playing.
I did not end up carrying them on my lap though. What I did was buckle them in a seat in the middle row of the car. There were others in the car to make sure nothing went wrong back there.
Once at the new house, I decided to let them stay in the travel cage overnight. This was because I didn't like the idea of so much stress in one evening. Overnight they were fine, thankfully.
This morning I hooked them up again to their big cage, and Ice hopped in quickly with some millet. Problem was, Mexico couldn't figure out where the door was to join him! *Facepalm* After waiting to see if he would figure it out, Ice went back into the small cage instead!
So I had to surrender.
I tried again this evening, and they finally went in. Much to my chagrin, because I wanted them in it in the morning, so they had time to settle. But, oh well. That's life.
Sorry for the long post! I came to post as soon as they were in, so it was all fresh in my mind.
Thanks for reading!
