Default I want her to become a shiny diamond but how :/ budgie cleaning

Hey everyone
She take a shower from time to time but her feathers are still soiled. I want her to have nice, soft and perfect feathers. How can I do that? The place where I got her had poor conditions. She has a very lovely ice blue color but my little cutie isn't in her best shape for sure. She has fungal rn and we're in treatment stage. I'll definitely polish her feathers after she's fully recovered

It's my topic about her disease and healing process

Welcome to the forums,

In order to improve your budgie's feathers it's important to have her on a good diet, this in itself will improve her feather quality over time and she will grow strong, shiny feathers on her next moults. To improve feather quality you can supplement her diet with egg food, this is a very important component to give especially when moulting. For all the detailed information, be sure to check the sticky threads at the top of the Diet and Nutrition section's main page.
You can start by reading these links:
https://talkbudgies.com/articles-diet...ur-budgie.html

https://talkbudgies.com/articles-diet...-seed-mix.html

There is absolutely no need for you to polish her feathers or to force your budgie to bathe, because that can do more harm than good.
Budgies are able to clean and keep their feathers well maintained by daily preening.
As for the very soiled feathers, it's best to simply offer your budgie a safe means for her to bathe and this can be achieved by placing a shallow dish of water or a small bowl for your budgie to bathe when she feels the need to do so.

Thanks! you're welcome. I really like this place so far and I get best quality products for her. She gives it away when she need to take a shower. She try to use her water bottle and right after I see that I put her bathtub in her cage. She took a shower for a few times in last 2 month. I hope she'll get better

Hi there!

Your little Bill will look better once she feels better, so treating her mite infestation first is the best way to help her look and feel her best. Right now her feathers are dirty and messy because she's itchy, uncomfortable, and most likely overpreening to try and alleviate the discomfort of the mites.

Aluz has also made a good point that she should have a good and balanced diet. If she does choose to bathe in a shallow saucer of water, that's good too, but it's not a necessity

BudgieBill... Welcome. This is a really great site, I'm new to budgies & reading all of the "stickies" in each section was a huge help to me. Hope your girl feels better soon. I went through mite treatment with my budgie, and, he is white and light blue and was a bit dirty in the beginning of owning him. He didn't like to bathe much (still doesn't) but I offer various bath dishes on a regular schedule because once in awhile he likes it and wants to... But not much, maybe once a month or even less. I've read that some budgies (and a lot it seems) don't like to take a bird bath. Some do, some don't apparently.

I overlooked his dirty head and dirty wing feathers and he cleaned himself up a lot, and also over time new feathers came in and his messiness was a thing of the past.

Also, my budgie eats a lot of greens (which is great, yay!) so half the time his beak is stained green and sometimes his white feathers around his face have a bit of a green tinge. But this is actually a really wonderful thing. Some budgies won't eat vegetables and that's not good for them, so at times a messy budgie is a healthy budgie. (Sometimes they might have an orange face if eating carrots.

At first I was concerned about his appearance, but then I realized as a new owner there's so much else to focus on in the beginning, things that are so much more important...healthy diet as Aluz mentioned, safe cage & toys, making sure the budgie feels comfortable & safe etc. ... developing a slow, safe & secure relationship etc.

I focused on the other things and the dirty feathers took care of themselves.

Congrats on your new budgie... she sounds like she found a good & caring home.

It's all about us. I've seen some people leaving their pets in front of veterinary centers... My heart and soul would never let me to do that and I hope she'll be fine soon. Thanks for answers ^^

I couldn't see the photo before. She's really pretty. That's wonderful that you are nursing her back to health.

I wouldn't worry about her feathers at all. Follow the advice of the experts here in this thread and beyond re. bathing best practices, however like everyone said, with good care & a good diet & treating her mites... they will take care of themselves and one day she will be even more beautiful. Look forward to an update picture a few months from now after she's all healed.

I've read your other thread and I'm glad you'll be getting the proper medicine to treat your little girl's scaly mites as quickly as possible.
