I bought a bag of Yucca Chips because I thought it was a better deal than just having one of the Yucca Kabob Toys.
I hadn't put this type of chew toy in the cage before, and wow, was it a huge hit. A new thing for me vacuum off the floor...!!! Lol.
My budgie Biz went nuts for it, and he loved it so much, that he spent the entire night sleeping on a Yucca kabob toy I made. I found him there the next morning. .... I took a bamboo skewer, cut off the sharp end so it was dull, threaded Yucca chips and wooden parts from another toy onto the bamboo skewer, then attached it to the side of the cage with zip ties. (Pix attached.)
I also threaded a swing with Yucca pieces and that was love at first sight too.
My question is... some of these chips look... shall I say... moldy....? Does anyone know if these are safe?
RavenaGryf and FaeryBee .... I got them on Amazon and they're replacing the entire bag at no cost. (& told me to just keep the original since they don't want it back.) Not all of the original bag was moldly... I would say about 1/4 seemed clean and white. I will be interested to see if there are any moldy chips in the new bag. Regardless, I'm going to write to the manufacturer and let them know. ....In general do you find these kabob toys / yucca chips safe for our budgies? ( if of course there is no mold on them?)
All parrot species including budgies definitely seem to love toys made with yucca. Soft and fun to shred .

I'm glad Amazon is replacing the ones you received.
Definitely a good idea to contact the product supplier Amazon uses as well!
... I'm glad these are safe because Biz is obsessed with them & destroyed a homemade swing I did and a homemade kabob I made... in a matter of about (5) days. He loves them a lot. He's a shredder for sure.
I wrote to Wesco the manufacturer letting them know this is dangerous to birds. I found other incidents of it online. I'm curious of their response... I simply let them know this is happening. ....If bundling the moldy ones in the loose chip bags they sell.... is a way of unloading the lesser quality product... that's not very cool. I don't know if that's what they're doing to fill the bag... but it's not a good move. 3/4 of the bag was good quality, 1/4 was moldy. We'll see what the next bag holds.
