Default Something bad happened...Reggie inhaled water in his bath

Reggie almost drown in his bath water.

He decided to try and drink out of his bath and fell in head first and got water up his nostrils and then rolled onto his back in panic. I picked him up and took him out of the bath and I've dried him off as much as possible but he's still very shook up. He's eating fine but at the moment he's very scared of his water bowl. He's poop is also very runny right now but that might just be because he landed head first in the water and he swallowed a lot of it.

He's chirping and he seems okay even though he's a bit shook up from trauma of what happened. He's my little trooper and I hope he's going to be okay. I'll keep an eye on him just in case.

For future cleaning there will be no more baths for Reggie just water sprays from his bath bottle.

My little trooper <3

Yeah he's a bit shook up but he's doing okay. The pet store I bought it from told me they were safe. They clearly aren't that safe if budgies are drowning in them.

I have the same bath for my guys, if it's the one in your Ongoing thread, I place it directly in the cage, and only when I am here, I have not had any problems with it though, guess you could limit the amount of water you fill in it, they don't need much to wash
Also, I do not use the top

Oh I didn't put a lot in it and I always observe him when he bathes but he tries to drink out of it and I guess this time he just fell head first into it and it gave him a bit of a shock

What type bath did you purchase?
Please post a picture of the product.

How much water was in the bath at the time this occurred?

This is the bath I purchased and I've just added the water to show exactly how much water I had inside there at the time. The top was also off when he tried to drink out of it because I was a bit wary of the top being on in case he got stuck.

Those baths are generally safe.
However, any water bowl, bath or other container of water can present a potential risk if there is too much water in them, the bird becomes stuck or simply inhales water when using it.

It sounds as though Reggie simply had a little tumble and it scared him. That is why it is important for members to ensure they are supervising their budgies when they bathe.

It sounds as though you took quick action and Reggie came out of the incident just fine.

Yeah the incident happened as I had the top off and I don't think Reggie realised it was a bath instead he thought it was a giant water bowl and tried to drink in it and slipped. He's perfectly fine. He was a bit shook up but now he's acting like himself again. So I'm really glad he's okay

Jasmine, to help Reggie over this, I wonder if you might want to try putting wet lettuce or some other safe leafy veg in the bird bath. I don't know if Reggie enjoys his veggies, but budgies usually like to roll around on a wet lettuce leaf.
This way, there's be no danger of any accidents, Reggie would not become afraid of the bird bath and he could still enjoy the bath.

Might be best to leave it a while before trying again but it would be sad if he missed out on bird baths altogether. Good job being there for him.
