Default Bubbles the Regurgutator

So, I'm changing Bubbles "qualifier" from Annihilator to Regurgitator. The birdie loves to feed things. Spiral never did this, so I'm kind of checking the "normalcy" of this with ya'll, as well as asking for ideas to minimize it. For a bit he was feeding Grant's big toe in socks. I finally figured out that when Grant wiggled his toe at Bubs, it looked like the "bobbing" before regurgitation, so now Grant's toe must lie still while Bubbles furiously attacks it in efforts to get a reaction. Breaking up is hard to do.
He has fed his jingle ball cat toy, but only twice. Tonight was my gag moment. Alex has been visiting his grandma and cousins since Monday. Tonight he called to FaceTime, so I had Bubbles "answer." Upon seeing Alex on the phone screen, I guess Bubbles felt he was looking a bit thin, because he promptly presented Alex with a meal-all over me and the phone.

I read that covering him for 11-12 hours at night helps, so we've been doing that. He is just the most loving, sweetest little birdie, and we want him to be happy! He is out of his cage much of the day, and pretty much has the run of our living room and sun room. He gets lots of toys, foods, and exercise. We are careful to only scritch his head, never his wings or body. Is there anything else we should/shouldn't be doing? Thank you! Also, if this is the "worst" thing we deal with, we'll be A-OK

The way you have reacted to Bubbles' offerings and the measures you have been taking in order to keep it under control have been good and as long as the regurgitation is done sporadically then all is well.
As a general rule, not allowing access to shiny toys where Bubbles can see his reflection will also keep him from becoming too attached to a certain toy and the chances of obsession to set in are much lower too.
Besides limiting the daylight hours, you can also reduce the amount of protein in Bubbles diet.

Aluz, can I ask you: you said as long as it was sporadic, it isn't a problem. At what point is it an issue? Would that be him regurgitating to the same person/object every time? Or just a more general regurgitation to many objects? At that point, how would one address it, other than removing an object he seemed overly attached to? There is so much to learn. This may sound silly, but I don't want Bubs feeling rejected because the toe/phone/ball doesn't return the favor!

It becomes an issue when the budgie focus his full attention to the object of affection and the regurgitation is done more often, as in multiples times per day and on a daily basis. Besides the excessive regurgitation, matings can also be present.
In extreme cases like the one I have referred, it's best to gradually wean the budgie off the troublesome toy and to redirect the budgie's attention to something else with the goal to later on completely remove the toy and to replace it for a different type of toy.

Since your Bubbles has access to an enriching environment where he is kept busy with playful activities and is stimulated in a good way, the chances for him to develop an obsessive compulsive behaviour problem are much lower.

Thank you again! I feel better now, understanding the complete picture. It's definitely sporadic, and he's showing no other mating behaviors. I think he's really missed Alex, even though Grant and I have been playing with him a lot. He loves us, but his very favorite flock member is gone- I think that's why he regurgitated so eagerly to the phone. Luckily, Alex is returning tonight, so Bubs gets his boy back

He really is!

My heart just melted today- he was muttering to his toys. I snuck over to listen- he was saying all the things Alex says to him! "Sweet, sweet budgie", "I love you", "Hey Bubbles!"

We just love our birdie! I know ya'll understand
