About 3 weeks ago I got a parakeet, and she is still pretty shy and adjusting. The week before I got mine a friend also purchased a parakeet. My friend recently had something come up and had to go out of town for an undetermined amount of time. I brought their parakeet to my house, but I am worried about putting them in the same room and them becoming used to each other and then my friends parakeet leaving when they get back. currently I have one upstairs and one downstairs, they can hear each other and occasionally chirp back and forth, but they have never seen each other. I'm worried that I'm being cruel keeping them apart, but I don't want them to be depressed when my friend gets back and they are separated. What is the best thing to do for both birds?
Welcome to the forums! You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.
The information on the several articles and sticky threads at the top of each section of the forums will be extremely useful and of benefit to you and your new budgie friend.
Given the circumstances and taking all factors into account, it's best that you keep the current arrangement. This is not just for the overall mental health of both birds (to bond and then be apart), but also in order to avoid any potential illness to be spread, they have both been recently purchased and it's best to follow quarantine procedures: https://talkbudgies.com/new-budgie-ar...necessary.html
In order to reduce the flock calling, you can close the doors to both rooms and having some music on for both budgies.
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
I agree with the advice offered above. It's best to keep them apart so they don't have problems separating after your friend returns!
Congratulations on your new budgie! I look forward to meeting him/her.
