Default what are they?

Can anyone tell me what these two are? Pretty sure the blue maybe a female but the yellow one is questionable. I have never seen the cere turn blue or brown just a slight pinkish color. The blue one hasn't turned the normal brown color as my first female did. I have had both about 4yrs now. Thanks

The blue one is a pretty hen.

The yellow one, which appears to be a dark-eyed clear due to lack of iris rings, is hard to tell. Male dark-eyed clears do have pink or purply-pink ceres as opposed to bright blue ceres. However, since I can see a large whitish area around the nares, and since the pink area is so pale (or perhaps it's beige), I'll say she's a pretty hen, too.

Let's see what the experts say.

Thanks, The yellow one is quite tough to tell always had been but caught them getting extremely close the other day so was just kinda wondering. The yellow one doesn't have any white...bad lighting and will try to get a better picture when I get a chance but has more of the beige/pink color.

I agree with Susan that your blue budgie is a female.

With regard to your yellow budgie -

For gender and/or mutation help - Lighting and Angle DOES matter

Try looking at the pictures in this link for comparison of which is closest to what your yellow budgie's cere looks like in natural light
(no flash/no direct sunlight)

From the pictures you have posted, your yellow budgie looks very much like a female to me. I'm not seeing any pink colour nor does the cere have the typical translucent quality present in male budgies of certain colour mutations whose ceres will keep the immature colour.
I'm actually seeing a creamy white colour and on one side of the cere I'm even seeing a light tan colour appearing.
While it's not the norm, some female budgies can have very subtle tan ceres when in breeding condition, they will not exhibit the dark brown ceres that have a crusty appearance. The ceres get a very light tan colour and remain smooth.

I agree that from the pictures so far, it looks like you have 2 hens. What're their names?

Thanks! The blue one when I first got it I named Gideon..didn't know it was a female. The yellow is meringue. Sorry hadn't gotten back sooner, my little yellow hasn't been feeling so great and been keeping an extra close eye on her. She is eating, drinking, preening but resting at times as well.
