My first post. I've been enjoying looking at everyone's photos, there sure are some beautiful budgies here on the forum!
I've always had a bird or two since I was a kid (I am now retired)... budgies, lovebirds, cockatiels, finches. Have always loved the budgie's sweet and silly nature. After many years of owning lovebirds and Society finches (I currently have four Societies), I recently went out and looked around at budgies, and saw this little guy (will try to add a photo) and fell in love with him. So, everyone, meet Frostie.
He's settling in well, and is already exploring his new home (the cage, have not let him out yet). I have a question... I am very curious what his coloration is called? I've been reading a lot online, and I am wondering if I am right in thinking he is either a lacewing or a spangle? Although, I will admit (ha) that I am not quite sure what the difference is between spangle and lacewing. I "think" he is a sky blue dilute (please correct me if I am wrong), and he would be also be called a greywing. Anyway, I am hoping to learn a lot more here, so please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, and let me know your thoughts. There are so many gorgeous colors and variations, I have a lot to learn. I hope the photo shows up for everyone, I'm not sure if I did it right.
Hello, to the forum! I love little Frostie, he is adorable. We have some mutation experts on here that will help with his mutation. I am by no means an expert but I don't think he's a lacewing or spangle. His markings don't look cinnamon to be counted as a lacewing nor do they look spangle Mutations can be tricky since not all of them are expressed nor are they always cut and dry. I agree he is a dilute, and looks greywing. I think he could be a sky blue dilute but he looks a little violet from the picture showing up on my screen, so could be a violet dilute. I'm sure someone will tell you for sure If you haven't found this already, this website is fantastic for identifying mutations Budgie Mutation And Color Guide - Cute Little Birdies Aviary
I do hope we'll be seeing more of you and Frostie around the forums!
