Question Severe weather??

So we have a tornado watch and a relative said a tornado was headed towards us. We have a small room thats safe, but I'm worried about the birds.

What do I need to do for the birds in case it gets that bad? I dont know at all, and I dont want to take chances and not know what to do when I need to. We dont have a basement.

Thanks in advance.

Can you move the cages into the room that is safe?

If not, move the cages into doorways of interior rooms.
Doorways are one of the most strongly supported areas in a house.

If the winds are bad and the birds seem frightened, cover the cages and play music for them.
If you lose power, make sure you have blankets to cover the cages for warmth (if necessary) and a battery powered flashlight to use as a night-light for them.

If you do not have bottled water on hand, make sure you've collected safe drinking water in a container in case there is problems with your water supply in the next few days.

A tornado watch isn't as bad as a tornado warning and hopefully you won't experience any major problems.

Best wishes!!

Thank you! I'll try to get that just in case. I want to be prepared in case we get a warning.

But I do know we're running out of food for the budgies. Would it hurt them to eat the tiels' food if we were to run out? It looks like their food, but with small black seeds.

The tiels is heavy, so what should we do if we cant move it?

If you can't move the tiel's cage at all then isn't much you can do other than just cover it and hope for the best.

Yes, if you run out of the budgies' food and can't get to the store for a day or so you can use the tiel's food.

Another thing you can do for light for them is get a gallon jug of water, making sure it's not completely clear. Get your flashlight with good batteries, and turn it on. Place the flashlight up against the jug of water. This should make it much brighter in the room, and a more uniform light. I did this when we had our hurricane last year in S. Carolina and our power went out. It stayed out for 4 1/2 days. Make sure that all your devices are at or near 100%, just in cases. Good luck and be safe!

Thanks. I think it passed us or something, but I think it's about that time of the year for tornadoes in my area.

It is important that everyone plans ahead for potential power outages and other emergencies to know what to do if something happens unexpectedly.

Additionally, ensure you have a well-stocked Birdie First Aid Kit which is easily accessible as well as the appropriate food and water on hand for your animals in addition to the blankets, battery operated lights, etc.
