Hi! to Talk Budgies

Obviously the breeder was not a responsible nor ethical person.
Well-done to you for rescuing the baby budgie.

If it is actually only 3-4 weeks old, it is going to need to be hand-fed. Can you at least call the breeder to confirm the budgie's age and whether or not it has been weaned?

You'll need to get the appropriate hand-feeding supplies in case the baby needs supplemental feedings because it probably can't get enough nutrition on its own at this point in time.

If the baby is that young, it is normal for it to stay on the bottom of the cage and not move. Make sure the baby is not sitting directly on the grate at the bottom of the cage. Cover it with newspaper.
Put some seed on the newspaper and a shallow water dish near the baby. Also, you may want to put a small stuffed animal in the bottom of the cage for the baby to cuddle with

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.

Welcome to the forums! You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.
The information on the several articles and sticky threads will be extremely useful and of benefit to you and your new budgie friend.

Is your new budgie the one on your Avatar picture? If so then your budgie already seems to be fully feathered making him/her at the very least a bit older than 4 weeks old. It's great that the little one is eating well. You can supplement his/her diet with egg food during this time too.

If possible, do post a couple of photos of your budgie so that an estimate on the age can be given. A full body shot showing the face, chest tummy area and another showing the back so that we can see the length of the wings and tail feathers.
