Default Cleaning a second hand cage.

Hi to everyone. I haven't posted on the forums for a whole year as I promised my parents that I would study extra hard to win scholarships in my subjects. I have been around though and been reading all your news. I have just bought a pre-owned cage for my Damon , the love of my life, and the best study buddy I could have had this year.Although it has only been used twice as a holiday cage, I am planning to clean it thoroughly. What is the best way to do this please? I am 3 hours away from the nearest shopping centre but will make the trip if I need to get an avian cleaner from a pet shop. I just want Damon to be safe. Thanks for your help...............Janna.

Janna,
You can simply use White Vinegar (full strength) to clean the cage.
Then rinse with clear water and allow it to air dry (in the sun if possible).

Thank you. We do have white vinegar so I will use that and air dry the cage. I'll be using all Damon's own perches etc .I can only pray that he will accept this cage. I have a huge indoor aviary sitting in our spare bedroom that Damon has always refused to go in to. We had to get him a smaller cage and he is happy in that , although he is only in it to sleep at night. He spends his days in my locked bedroom. I'm usually with him as I study by correspondence I'll broach the subject of a cage change "gently" with him and see how it goes. Thanks again....... Janna.

You're very welcome.

Please give us an update on how things go when you have the time after introducing Damon to the new cage.
