What type of cage should I get?

I am going to buy a new cage for my budgie, the problem is that he has an illness and will never fly. I would like to buy a cage that would be quite wide and not too tall because the one i have now is tall and he never uses the bottom, the only time he does is if he falls down and has to climb back up. I thought if it is wider, he would use the space more.

Thank You

I purchased the Liberta Oregon flight cage and am really pleased with it. It's tall, but still wide, and there is plenty of space for perches. The only thing is the bars are mainly vertical rather than horizontal.

For a solo disabled budgie, the best cage would be one that is 30" x 18" x 18".

You can use platform perches and ramps to help him get around in the cage.

I have the Montana Madeira II and I would definitely recommend it. It has loads of great features, but the thing that might really suit your budgie is the horizontal cage bars on all sides, so he can climb up and down more easily since he can't fly. Buddy is fully flighted, but he really enjoys climbing up and down the sides of the cage, and often seems to climb in preference to flitting about within the cage.

P.S. Just seen FaeryBee's post after I hit the submit button on mine...if I'd seen hers first I wouldn't have submitted mine lol, because her recommendation makes such perfect sense for your situation! :)

Here's what I did.
When Banana first got sick I placed popsicle sticks on the vertical sides to make it like a ladder. He was able to climb the sides really well. Any problem area he had I placed a popsicle sticks.

This Banana this morning. He still uses the popsicle sticks.

Thank you for all your replies, i will look at the cages. He isn't having trouble getting up it's just he falls and hurts himself, he can climb really well but never uses the space at the bottom, the space is wasted, a wider cage would mean he wouldn't hurt himself and he would use the space more.
thank you!

If he is falling, it is very important to have a lower cage instead of one with a lot of height so I strongly recommend the 30x18x18 cage.

You can pad the bottom of the cage with several layers of white paper towels to help cushion if he does fall.

Thank you for all of your replies but my budgie died two weeks ago because of his illness. Thank you for all the help you have given me.:)
He was the best budgie I could have hoped for. If anyone does have a French molt budgie, cherish them for the rest of their lives because I have never bonded that much with a budgie before, I have never had a budgie that loved me as much as he did.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm closing this thread.

If you wish to post a memorial or tribute to your budgie, you may do so in the "In Memory" section of the forum.
