Default Cage set up

Is there anything I need to add or change about this cage set up before I bring home my new budgies? I have ordered some toys online and they should be here any day now. I have also added newspaper to the bottom tray.

greetings looks like you're setup pretty good there.do you have cuttlefish in the cage, along with a mineral block as well?

And you did good having different types of perches in there for them as well.plus a long cover to be able to cover them up at night. I M sure someone will be able to assist you better.I really love the cage size.

Blessings and we're here if you need us.

That looks amazing!

Looks great, there's only one thing that I would do: trim the rope fringe on the boing and ensure no other rope strings are loose so he/she doesn't ingest them.

Other than what Shane suggested (cuttlebone and mineral block), as well as the new toys you've ordered, I think you're all set

I agree your budgie will love their cage. Awesome job with the nature perches! Adding cuttlebone, mineral block and toys will make it great!
I also use the pedi perches.
Also I keep the rope perch on the outside of the cage. And supervise Banana playing on it. Some birds have gotten sick from eating the string.

This is a really good sticky on the cage setup

You've received excellent advice from the previous posters!

I don't know what toys you've ordered so forgive me if I mention something you've already done...
I would ensure you have at least one swing (or more) and a couple of shredding toys.

The cage is well on it's way to being a little budgie kingdom!
Well done.

Looks like a lovely Budgie palace the only thing I will add is Budgie like to sleep high as possible in the cage for their safety and wellbeing. So hang a swing, or move a perch up to the top, I also have a perch attached to the outside near the door for a landing area if they are out of the cage.

I agree with what everyone else has said - you have a really lovely cage! You have awesome perches of different styles, different angles, etc. Also you basically have all the essentials covered.

Some ideas:
- I think the bottom half is a little perch heavy. Maybe even out the perch heights so that there is another branch near the top. Also consider getting a horizontal flat block perch (there are many types and styles) that could be a different style your bird might enjoy.
- I also try to give perches a purpose. I ask myself if the perch can be used as a sitting spot or a 'path' to go someplace else. I use toys and other furniture to create 'areas of interest' with some different ways a bird could climb/fly between them. It seems like budgies like to climb or hop between things if they can. Of course, having an area that they basically have to fly to is good to ensure they get some more exercise.
- it sounds like you have ordered toys. My budgie has enjoyed preening toys made of natural materials, as well as toys with shiny/colorful beads on them. Also she has a woven grass mat that sits horizontally in a corner that has lots of fun beads and things attached by leather cords. She sits and plays there a lot. I can give you the links to what I ordered from Amazon.com if you would like
- don't forget: the cage set up is malleable! anything you think should change...can be changed! don't be afraid to experiment

Lots of great suggestions there!

BTW, the idea of a flat perch is that it's good for the feet to stretch out flat, and budgies certainly like them. The one downside is that it collects the poops... You need to be ready to be free with the vinegar or poop-off frequently

We would all be interested to see some more final pics once you have the extras ordered & installed and made any change-arounds. Looks like a budgie paradise in the making!

The only thing that really came to mind was what some have mentioned already, about it being a little bottom heavy. They will like to spend more time up higher, so put the branches middle to top. When birds go to the bottom, they would be on the ground more likely than a low perch. Some really don't like to go down there, espeically if you have a grate.
