Default Would love some Cage help...

Hello ---

I bought this cute new bird a week ago - my first - and the pet store cage selection was terrible, so I bought a temporary cage knowing I would upgrade.

My space is limited unfortunately for now, so I need to try to keep the width around 26". [ At this time, I can't do a big flight cage, or even a 30" x 18" x 18" stackable. ... Maybe some day though. ]

I am looking at these, but open to suggestions:

Clean Life Playtop Bird Cage SP851WW Prevue Pet Products [ This is smaller than I'd like - 18" wide. Which will work, but I'd like to go wider if I can. ]

Flight Bird Cage Kit 91340 Prevue Pet Products - 26" L x 14" W x 22 1/4" H

https://www.wayfair.com/Prevue-Hendry...7-PVP1148.html - this is pointed at the top, but still a nice size and height: 24 inches long x 14 inches wide x 24 inches tall [ So I'd put useable height at about 20" inches tall. If I render the triangle part not useable. ]

I looked at a Hagen Vision Medium 02 and it seemed a bit ... cumbersome. I find the tray easier I think.

I was very surprised how limited the selection is for suitable cages. Do you agree?

Thanks...!

Hi there,

All cages are large enough for one budgie, however, I would suggest either the Clean Life cage with the peaked roof or the Prevue flight kit cage. Although the Clean Life is bigger, it also has a slanted roof, which makes it harder to hang toys/decorate.

Thus, it depends on what you want with regards to toy placement flexibility.

I can tell you that I've seen the Flight bird cage firsthand and I actually almost bought it for my bird, I didn't because I found a better price for mine at the last minute, but it is pretty spacious and the doors are great. It isn't the sturdiest but it does the job done and it's not as if you're keeping a conure in there so it's great

Personally, I would go for either of those two, the playtop is pretty tall and budgies prefer width over height

Yes, I agree! Because I'm a foster for budgies I'm always on the look out for suitable cages for people who don't have the room for 30" length. I'm aghast at how expensive they are. I would choose the flight cage kit--since it's the longest--but it costs more than the 30x18x18 one and only about $40 less than the larger flight cages on a stand when you find a (very) good deal. What makes me cranky is that "they" manufacture so many cages that are below the generally accepted minimum size!! OK, I'll stop now.

Agree with you re. the tiny cages. Can't stand the thought of cramped birds. What do you think of this one? Need to determine if I can make it fit, but this one is interesting? https://www.wayfair.com/Prevue-Hendry...FVVahgodSlMOew

I have both cages listed below (I don't use either now on a regular basis because I have large flight cages but I've used them for quarantine)

The last one you listed (linked below) is larger and is a very nice size for one budgie.
21" Long x 25 Wide x 29 High 1/2" bar spacing

Prevue Hendryx Square Top Cage

I kept two budgies in this cage for a couple of months until I relocated them to their Prevue Hendryx F040

Clean Life Flat Top Bird Cage with 1/2" bar spacing
18" Long x 18" Wide x 24" High (Cage interior measurements)

The Playtop Clean Life Cage has the same measurements Length and Width but is 27" High

Clean Life Flat Top Bird Cage
