Smile Discussion of cages, food clips etc.

Nice cage set up My Rocky has the same and have him for 3 months tomorrow also lol.. I found with Rocky that for the pellet what really help me introduce it to him is that I ground some of the pellet very fine and sprinkle some on his seeds dish everyday. When I try something new "food" especially pellet I had to find a spot where it will attract him to eat and so far what work for me is that I keep a very small dish very close to one of his preferred perch and leave it there for a few days since it's pellet and it had work so far he nibbles at it everyday not as much as seeds but at least he does eat some When I put it low in the cage he didn't eat it at all so I guess we have to find what work best since they all have different preference .I thought I would share since it's good to have ideas from others her is a pic of is little pellet cup lol

This forum has helped me more than I can even begin to say. And it's given me the tools to help my little bird have a good life. She's come a long way in the 3 months she's been with me. Plus everyone else's bird pictures and videos are fun to look at! I love this place.

Yeah... they're little hooligans. That's great that Artoo eats some of everything.

Here's a product that has been great for me. It's also available on Amazon and other retailers as well. It's a clip that secures to the cage (sides, floor, top...anywhere in between the bars)... I clip in broccoli, kale, romaine lettuce, apple slice... it even worked with a cinnamon stick. .... It secures the veggies so your bird can chew on it & it stays in place. I can't recall if your budgie likes everything chopped, but maybe give these a try to see if she'll nibble on broccoli & kale leaves....? It almost becomes like a chew toy.... which that's great too. My bird loves to shred broccoli while eating it. I've found these clips to be a real hit. And they work well for what they're supposed to do.

I'm with you re. the forums. I would be a wreck without it. Totally game changing. It's a relief (& fun) to learn about best practices. ...That's awesome you've had so much progress. It's really amazing what they can do when they're well cared for & feel safe.

yeah... I have the same cage as well. ... Question about that cup... it looks like it might be more secure than the kind that both Cerulean & I have... we have the deep kind that have the metal hooks. Looks like your little cups are more secure. Do you have a link where they can be purchased? Do they snap on to the bars? At some point I'll be rethinking food cups because the kind in the photo attached... sometimes Biz knocks off the wall.

I actually got this tiny cup at my petstore not sure which company it was from. it was in the hamster/bird section wall but when I saw it I was to used it for outside treats cup to add on the cage outside but then I realized that it was the perfect size for the pellet . When you don't have a huge cage and need a cup for fresh food, seeds, water it take space so this tiny cup was perfect and less then $3 .. it is not too deep so don't have to put as much and he is able to see the pellets and small enough to put close to his preferred spot .The one on your pic I tried it but too deep and rocky didn't even get close or touch the food when I used it.. I have so many different cup right now it's crazy because I tried everything and what will work best lol. Thank god for this forum that's all I can say been able to share ideas and tips between each other is nice. Rocky doesn't eat at bottom cage . I tried and he didn't even go at all so right now seeds and water are lower then mid way to bottom and I am moving them down slowly every couple weeks so eventually they will be at bottom. Baby steps lol

Thanks for the feedback. I might look over in the hamster section in my store and see if they have some cups that might make sense. You're lucky you have a great store nearby. I have one close but it's pretty limited in their selection.

I hear you re. those deep cups. That makes sense little Rocky wouldn't dive down into a deep cup. (Not yet anyhow. Just wait until he gets bigger. )

That's a smart strategy to get Rocky to the bottom of the cage. I think Biz was more inclined possibly because the cage he came from had water & seeds at the very bottom of the cage. (Also he was older.) So he was very used to that. Otherwise I see a lot of budgies that just seem like they want to hang out on the top of the cage. I just rearranged the cage and Biz won't go to the left side now. He only wants to be on the right side for the moment.

Agree re. the forum. It's amazing.
