Hello all! I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this topic has come up before.
My roommates have four cute little budgies who are kept in a glass terrarium meant for reptiles and amphibians. The budgies seem happy in it, but I was wondering if it's safe to keep the budgies in a glass terrarium? The terrarium itself is 36" wide x 18" deep x 24" high. It has an air vent along the front and a wire mesh lid. I notice that the terrarium gets really smelly really quickly and I'm worried the airflow may not be good enough.
I've searched online and couldn't find any information on this. If anyone could give me some suggestions or point me somewhere where I can find out more, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
Budgies should never be housed in a glass terrarium.
Budgies need to be able to fly and climb the sides of the cage.
Additionally, the birds are not getting enough air.
The bacteria build up in the terrarium can quickly lead to the possibility budgie respiratory illnesses as well as the dreaded Avian Gastric Yeast infection.

Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
Excellent advice already!
I'd like to add that, at least for my two, budgies love to climb the sides of their cage to get a better view of things, or even just to hang out. There are lots of great affordable cages out there from Amazon you can order (especially prevue cages); once you guys have gotten the new cage you can also sell the old glass tank to a reptile owner to help recoup the costs
