Metal cages are always better than wood, for the simple reason that budgies can chew through everything and anything wooden! In the wild, they chew through trees to make their nests inside, so a few inches of wood, regardless of type or make, is not going to stop them from escaping (or trying to!) if they really want to.

Additionally, metal cages are more stable and more durable than wooden cages

There are a lot of great metal cage options for your little budgies, such as the Prevue Hendryx F040 or F050, both of which are favourites around the forums

I think Star has covered it all here.

I know some members have got wooden cages and have then had to replace them in favour of metal for this very reason.

As the others have said, wooden toys, wooden perches, wooden cage - budgies won't differentiate which to chew and which not to.
Wooden cages can look very attractive, but for how long?! Plus, I feel that metal cages are easier to clean and therefore also more hygienic.

Wood cages would work for finches (canaries etc) but parrot family like budgies are all chewers. Safe wood for toys but not cages.
Metal is easy to clean thoroughly.
