Angry A secondary cage

At the beginning of December, Lemon laid her first egg. I changed up everything, including the furniture in their room, and she stopped.
In January, she laid another egg. I changed everything again, and she stopped again.
Just today, she's laid a third egg. In the meantime I'm going to change everything up, yet again, but as I've followed everything else for the 'when we don't want eggs!' thread, I'm looking at buying a second cage even though it breaks my heart for poor Sweetie.

I currently have a Vision L02. Now this cage is essentially two L01s combined, but as they changed the cage design a little recently (I got mine about 4 years ago) my first thoughts of just buying a new top and bottom to make two cages won't work.

Basically, what kind of cage for a desktop would you guys recommend? I would, ideally, like to eventually have them back in the same cage in the future, and this new cage would probably end up being their proper cage with my L02 being a back up cage (I figure it's time for an update on their home).

Thank you!

How much room do you have on your desktop for the new cage?

If you have the space, something like this may work.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bird-Flight...YAAOSw8-FaWUk6

I have two of these. You could buy 2, and then stack them on top of each other to save space while your budgies are separated, and then to put them together again, you can remove the side panels from each cage and connect them together using zip ties. If you need to separate the birds again, just replace the side panels again and secure with zip ties.

That’s a great idea from IHeartPieds, though if you’ve only ever known the vision cage, be prepared for a lot more vacuuming.

Vision cages are brilliant for containing the mess. I used to have a L02 for my canary and I bought another vision cage, second hand when I first got a budgie; though I accidentally bought a L11 (wider spaced bars), thinking it was a L01
I ended up having to ‘borrow’ the upper deck bars from the canary’s L02 to form a second suitably barred cage. The purpose of this ramble, is to say that even though the base and roof of the second hand cage were slightly different ages & styles from those of the canary’s, they still fit the bars in the exact same way. Sooooo if you really like the vision cage, it might be worth sending a few photos to Hagen to double check what is/isn’t compatible - also, if you drive, it’s worth checking local ads to see if anything is available second hand, as vision cages are easy to dismantle and thoroughly clean.

That all being said, my canary is now in the budgies old single flight cage, and the more portable large vision cage is now demoted to a potential ‘holiday cage’.
If you really prefer a change, then if you state your maximum base dimensions and budget, members may come up with other suggestions.

I do love my Vision L02, but at the same time I think it's time to upgrade to something nicer. When I was given Sweetie way back when, I knew nothing of birds and honestly got the L02 because it was the biggest I could carry on public transit from the store.

I like the look of the Prevue F040 cages and ideally would like to get that but how wouldI separate it into two cages temporarily?

Have a look at this thread:

Maybe you can pm budgiekeet to ask how he managed to split the cage!

I have split an F040 in half, although not to house birds top and bottom. A few years ago I had a bird that became unsteady because of a pituitary tumor and I was worried that he might fall and that's a long way down from top to bottom so I decided to put in a false bottom at the mid point of the cage. Because of the way the cage is constructed, and because I did not want to cut any bars, I had to make 3 panels that could slide into the cage, front to back, between some support bars, thereby creating a false bottom.(Sounds confusing but if you see the cage you will see where I am referring to) I then lined it with towels and put paper towels over that. If you are considering it you may want to think about the bird that gets housed on the bottom half of the cage, since birds like to be as high up as they can get, the one in the bottom half may not be too happy about it, and it is also a bit dark. It's also a pain to clean the top half if you put in the false bottom, there is nothing to pull out like the tray at the bottom half.

Have you considered something like this instead of the F040? I think it would work much better.
The cage is available in either black or white.

If you read through my comment again, you'll see the idea is to get two of these cages.

You're very welcome.

Have you heard of Borderlinx?

You might want to calculate the shipping costs to see if they are reasonable.

Buy on Amazon.com and ship to Canada

If the shipping is prohibitive, here is the cage in Canada:
