We bought a new cage for Branch about 2 weeks ago. This new cage has been a long time coming. I've been searching for the right cage for a while, really since the incident with Olaf and the vision cage.
The vision cage was great and super easy to clean, but not very secure for a home with dogs and small children. One morning, my 3 year old decided Olaf would like some of her breakfast and she opened the cage to feed him and he flew out the door. Our 3 year miniature dachshund was on the scene before anyone could intervene. We eventually moved on to another budgie and I came up with several snap clips to keep the front door and some chain to hold the plastic food doors closed. I still didn't feel particularly comfortable with this setup.
So two weeks ago, I was in the local bird store and came across this cage made by HQ Cages. It meets almost all my requirements, the only week point was the front door, which I was able to clip shut. The feeder doors have the spring loaded sliding bolts that can be tightened to keep them closed.
So far we love the cage and Branch certainly approves also. He also has moved into the living room next to my chair.
