Default Wanting to upgrade my birds cage

I currently have my two girls in a 30 x 18 x 18 inch flight cage. Of course this is the minimum for two budgies and I would really like to give them a larger cage. Once I rearrange my room I will have much more space.

I have a second identical flight cage and I was considering connecting the two side by side so that I have a 60 x 18 x 18 inch cage.

However this will take up more space and require me to get a custom made table to sit it on.

Because of this I have been looking into buying a taller cage. However I know that width is more important than height, so I'm wondering if getting a taller cage is even worth it? Would my birds use all the space?

I was thinking something like these.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a wider cage that maybe comes with a stand?

Rearrange your room and see what the are the maximum cage dimensions that you can practically manage.
If you have enough space, I would really recommend a double flight cage; my budgies and I am very happy with the decision to purchase ours.

Quick search for Australia found this one

It looks to be the same one that I have.

I would highly recommend going with the cage that Julie has suggested. That cage is an excellent option and very reasonably priced!.

Be sure to post pictures of your new cage set-up in this thread once you have it all assembled and decorated. I'm sure your budgies will love having the additional space.

I like the idea of that cage, and I do have the space for it. Do you find that your budgies use all the space in the cage, or do they tend to stay near the top?

While I will have the space if I arrange my room right, I'm not sure I want a cage quite that large in my bedroom.

I'm currently tossing up between these two cages.

Option 1

Option 2

Option 1 is larger and has a bigger door, and is also a bit shorter which is great since I'm short. But I'm concerned my budgies won't even bother going down the bottom since it's so low to the floor, and perhaps option two would be better since it's a bit taller and they are more likely to use the space? I dunno, opinions?

I appreciate what you mean about accessing the top of the cage. If that is important to you, then your ‘option 1’ at 140cm height looks to be a better option - It’s also a little wider than most single flight cages too!

My birds do use all the space, though I encourage that by having their seed (& some pellets) on the cage floor. In general, they tend to go higher to snooze, and hang around the middle area during the day. They don’t seem at all anxious to go to the base of the cage and these are birds that have never chosen to land anywhere lower than the base of the cage when out of the cage - I guess ‘home’ is safe.

If you feel that option 1’s base may be too low, could you perhaps try out a temporary arrangement, where you place their current cage at that height and (after a day or two of adjustment) observe whether they appear less comfortable there?

Thanks for the reply. I do plan to have their food bowls on the lower part of the cage to encourage them to use the space. I don't currently have anything low to put my birds cage on. I think I'll have a look in my local pet stores for cages similiar to these. They are more expensive in store, but I just want to have a look at them in person.
