Default Using a rat cage? -- changed and bought Prevue Hendryx F040

Hey everyone,

so the other day my friend got some pet rats and i think the cage would be good for my two boys.

the bar spacing is right and its bigger than what they have now.
I can't seem to find any commercial bird cages bigger than what they have now link -->( https://prevuepet.com/product/41/off...cage-sp25211rw ) with the right spacing (im reluctant to build one for fear of it being dangerous)

heres a link to the cage im thinking of.

https://www.petsmart.com/small-pet/c...ml?cgid=600124

What are your guys' thoughts? any dangers you see that i dont? its on sale now so I want to jump on it but I dont want them in anything dangerous.
I would remove the shelves and ramps (maybe leave one shelf for foot stretches)

Are you certain the spacing between the bars in the cage you are considering is no more than 1/2"?
Why would you consider this cage over other Prevue Hendryx cages with 1/2" bar spacing made for birds?
The reviews on the cage you are considering buying are not very positive...

Have you considered getting either the Prevue Hendryx F040 or F050?
I have both. I personally prefer the larger F050 but the F040 is a good cage as well.

The dimensions of this cage are fine, however lack of feeder accommodations (I'm not sure of the bar distance and thickness), and a cage this size, should accommodate full flight and even leaving one shelf in place would make a flight/& cleaning issue. The prevue cage you're using for now is ok for now but I'd look around for a nice flight cage (at a reasonable price). I'm sure if you look around you could find a cage that is close the this size but designed for birds.
Just my thoughts and I'm sure someone here can make a brand/model recommendation.

Oh I've never seen that Cage before, guess I wasn't looking hard enough. That link doesn't ship to Canada but I found the f040on Amazon for a good price. the f050 wouldnt even fit in my apartment so it works out. Think I should get this one for my 2 boys? Do your birds use the bottom part? Ill scrap the rat Cage idea, thanks for the input.

I'll keep looking for cages for the time being. My laptop has just given out so that's gotta be replaced for school. The boys do fly around in their current Cage so I'm not super worried, but I know it's always good to go bigger.

I'm glad to hear you got the F040. Your two boys will love it.
Be sure you clip the spring doors on the sides of the cage closed to prevent any accidents.

Clips for spring-load side door security

To get the budgies used to the bottom of the cage, feed them their treats on the cage bottom and scatter seed on the newspaper placed on top of the bottom grate. My birds all use the bottoms of their cages.
