Default Newspaper on bottom or not?

I recently bought a Prevue F040, and setting it up I'm re-thinking something I've done for years.

I've always put newspaper over the grate at the bottom of any cage I've had. I thought it would be more comfortable for their feet. I clean them regularly, so it's not like they're treading through poop.

So what is the reasoning for having the grate on the bottom and the stuff falling through?

Thanks!

I have both the F040 and F050 Flight Cages and always use newsprint (blank newspaper) on the bottom grates of my cages. I like my birds to be able to walk on the grates without having to grip them with their feet as they do enough of that on the sides (and tops when they are out of cage) of their cages.

Additionally, cleaning the grates is much more difficult than changing up the paper twice a day!

Thanks FaeryBee - that's what I was thinking, too!!! It just seems more comfortable.

I'm sure they'll enjoy their new cage!

Please be sure to secure the side spring-loaded doors.
