I'm seriously considering a budgie as a pet. As a youngster in the 60s, we had several over time and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Have been doing my research and hope to find a young male that needs a good home. Thought I would join the forum now to absorb more information before taking the leap. Thanks for having me.

He came down from Heaven unto this earth below
He came down from glory and praises untold
He came down to man fashioned in their way
He came down to rescue, He came down to save
Thank you for the well wishes. My only issue at the moment is finding a place that sells them. Doesn't seem to be anyone close by as there aren't any mom and pop pet stores in my area any longer and if there are they are well hidden. Not a good business model. The only places locally are the "big box" pet stores. I've read how horrible they can be, but I wonder if I'm careful and do my homework if they would suffice.
EDIT: I did find a place called Pet Kare. They are locally owned and have two locations.
I also grew up with budgies and just recently got my first in a very long time. We got ours from Petco because there were no breeders locally. I made sure to pick a baby which didn't guarantee us a male or female.....ours turned out to be a female. I was very pleasantly surprised at how quickly she warmed up to us and how easy she was to tame....she has the best personality and I love her to pieces! Good luck on your budgie journey!!!
Thanks for the info. Not a fan of North Joisey so I will rule them out. Frederick is an option, but it appears all of their "ready to go homes" are spoken for. Will have to keep an eye open. I'm very partial to the green/yellow birds as that takes me back to childhood. I'm funny that way.
