Smile Hello

Hello there. My family recently found a little budgie wandering in the parking lot at my dad's work. We tried finding an owner but no one ever stepped up so now she's ours.

Since then I've been doing A LOT of research cause I've never had a bird ever. I always see this site so I decided to join

Default Gender Check

Okay so...since we found our little budgie and after looking up info we assumed that our bird is a girl. Thing is she shows some behaviors that point towards both so...not completely sure.

-She can be talkative and loud
-She nibbles on stuff a lot
-The cere is tan but has some light blue

Welcome to the forums!

No doubt you have a cute budgie girl there! She must currently be in the process of coming out of breeding condition, that's when the cere reverts to the creamy white colour and there can be a bit of very faint light blue colour on the edges of the cere.

I'm glad you have rescued and given a home to this budgie. And regarding her behaviour, males and females can and will sing. Some are more friendly and outgoing than others and this is regardless of gender, it all comes down to the bird's personality.
I currently have 3 out of 4 females, who sing as much as the boys, bob their heads and are playful. The most accurate way of telling gender is through checking the colour on the cere and to not go by general behaviour.

I went through the same with my budgie.....cere was saying probably a female but her behavior was saying male. Her bite says female, ouch! She does this when she's tired and jealous!
