Default Hey guys!

Hi all!

I bought a budgie recently from a guy that is known in my city for selling nice birds, and yeah I'm still trying to figure out what my budgie likes and what doesn't like.

here's the picture of my bird

Any tips for me? he's male or female? how old do you think he is?

Welcome to the forums! You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.

In order to determine gender, we will need a frontal shot taken in natural lighting of the whole beak/cere area. To tell age we will also need to see the forehead area. From the little I see, it seems your budgie is fairly young, the irises on the eyes haven't yet started to develop and it's possible your budgie no longer has the baby barring on the forehead area.
It's likely that your budgie is about 4 - 5 months old, but a better photo will certainly be helpful.

I have moved your thread to the Introductions section of Talk Budgies, where it's most appropriate.

Welcome to the forum.

Your new birds age can be guessed a little better with some more pictures- a forward facing picture would help. The cere (over the beak) needs to be seen to sex your budgie.

The forum is packed with tips and links- you just need look and you'll likely find all the answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet! lol!!

Take a look at the Taming and Bonding section and the sticky topics that answer a lot of the most commonly asked topics about budgies.

Absolutely a boy and he does look a little older than his previous picture made him look- his cere is a more mature blue and he has his iris rings. Aluz is the expert with the age so she'll be able to give you an actual number.

Do you have any names in mind for him?

Your budgie has fully develop white irises and has gone through its first moult, so at this point it's very difficult to give an accurate age estimate.
I'd say your budgie is at the very least 1 year old.
From that side photo, I'm unable to tell if there is a prominent white colour around the nostril area or if it's a lighter shade of blue.
By now the cere should have a rich and deep royal blue colour and I'm not seeing that on your budgie. By enlarging the photo, it seems I'm seeing a lot of white and if that is what you see in person then you have a budgie girl who is currently out of breeding condition.

He has a deep blue nose, and a little white near the nostril part.

This second photo confirms my original suspicion. You really do have a female budgie there.
