Default I rescued a 12 year old budgie :)

Hi All!
I just rescued an (aproximately) 12 year old budgie. Apparently, she had a friend that died about 4 years ago and has since been by herself. She is a great bird and seems happy and content but as someone totally new to Birds as Buddies, I am wondering if I should get her a new Budgie friend. I just want her to be safe and happy.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!
PTG

Welcome to the forums and the ever exciting world of budgie ownership!
You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.
The information on the several articles and sticky threads at the top of each section of the forums will be extremely useful as you become more familiar with the species.

It's great that you have adopted this budgie in need of a good, loving home.
Given her advanced age and the fact that she has been a solo budgie for 4 years and has been happy and doing well, you don't need to get her a budgie friend.
If you spend good quality time with her on a daily basis and work on establishing and developing a bond, her social needs will be met and she will continue to be happy under your care.

Best of luck with your new budgie friend and feel free to share some pics of her when you have the time!

Thank you!
I'm so glad I found a place that can help me. I have been scouring the internet for a week with nothing but conflicting opinions.

I had never considered getting a bird but I adore her already.
I just want Laverne to be happy for the rest of her life, however long that may be. I hope I have the first 50 year old budgie!

Hi there and to the forums!

I'm so glad you were able to adopt your darling Laverne. She clearly has found a great home!

You've come to a great place to learn even more about these cute little birds! Be sure to browse through the forums, especially looking through the Budgie Articles and all the forum's many "stickies", threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference

If you have any questions afterwards, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Hope to see you around, and we'd love to meet your girl soon when you get a chance!

Cheers

That's so awesome that you rescued Laverne! (I love her name by the way! Did she have that name already or did you give it to her? ) Many people tend to go for Budgie chicks instead of the adults, especially when they're fairly well off in age. The same applies to any animals in need of rescue/adoption, so good job to you! I also hope we'll be meeting her soon! Pictures would not be objected to This forum is a great place because, as you stated, the internet has a wide view of conflicting opinions. TB is very dependable and knowledgable on the best budgie care! Hope to see you and Laverne more around the forum.

It is good of you to give this older bird a good home. She will love you for it. You could be her best friend. Another bird for her is nor required, but as time goes on, if you may wish to get her a bird friend, be sure that they connect well on a social level. Main thing is if they get along together. It may cut into your friendship time with her.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Thank you for rescuing little Laverna. We'd love to see some pictures of her if you have some you'd like to share.

Since she's been on her own for the past 4 years and is an older bird, it is best to allow her to enjoy her solitary time.
By you giving her your time, love and attention, she will be happy just as she is.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most of your basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.
