Default Hi everyone!

I just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I got my first budgie, a little blue boy named Icarus, four days ago and he is a happy little guy. He is already learning how to step up on my hand. But anyway, I can't wait to hear what people have to say about their budgies and get my questions answered.

I also attached a couple of pics of my boy for everyone to see.

Welcome to TB! I think Icarus might be a girl. I see a pale blue cere. Can you post another pic of Icarus in natural lighting (without flash)?
Also, may I ask the dimensions of the cage? Just out of curiousness, as it looks a bit small

See you around the forum

Hi there and to Talk Budgies!

Icarus is a gorgeous little boy! Since he's already an adult budgie, his cere is the normal blue of a mature male rather than the pale blue of a young or out of breeding condition female

I love his name, too!

Generally, it is recommended that you do not touch your budgie or try to tame him for at least two weeks. He needs time to settle in and get comfortable with his new home, so even if he shows signs of being comfortable already, it's best to back off a little bit and spend time building your bond by talking and reading to him. Some new budgies seem very apt to step up early when in fact they are submissive because they are afraid. Although this might not be the case with your boy, it never hurts to build a solid foundation of trust before moving forward

Also, budgies do not need any "snuggle huts" or any similar things to sleep or to feel safe. In fact, these can be very dangerous since their toes can get caught in the fibres, seriously injuring or killing them, and if they ingest the material while chewing it, it also can be fatal. Your little Icarus will be just fine without any sort of tent in his cage

I look forward to seeing you and your boy around the forums!

Meanwhile, be sure to look through the forum's many Budgie Articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subform for easy reference) to stay up to date on all the best practices for caring for budgies. If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Best wishes!

He's a beautiful boy. I agree with StarlingWings advice regarding bonding and the snugglehut.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond. Icarus is doing well. No more sneezing and everything is good. I attached another picture of him here. I also got a buddy for him about a month or so ago. There they at together in the second picture. The other bird is Apollo. I'm not sure of the gender of that one yet though.

That photo of Apollo isn't the best for determining gender, do you happen to have another one of him? They're both adorable
