My name is Zoe and I made this account in 2016 and never used it again after posting one question (how to tame my budgie). Sadly, I never tamed Charlie and I got him a beautiful friend, Angel, to have as a companion instead. But my passion for my budgies has only gotten stronger and I absolutely love keeping them happy despite that they don’t let me touch them.
As I was reading budgie stuff on the web I came across this website again and thought why not see who replied to my question long ago. There were the kindest responses and I couldn’t help but want to come back because I’m constantly googling my budgies appearance/behavior/ect. when something is different than usual and it’s tough to find straight answers.
I uploaded a pic of my two sweet birds hopefully it works. No one else in my life is as interested in budgies so I’m excited to share their life with others and improve it as much as posisble
Charlie is blue and yellow, he should be about 7 years old now and he loves to sing, he loves his own reflection, and he loves Angel. He also loves to scream when he wants to go to bed, something we have in common.
Angel is periwinkle and white and is maybe 3? He’s quiet and reserved and tolerates Charlie singing in his face all day. Sometimes he will return the love to Charlie but most of the time head rather be chewing on a mineral block. He is happiest when he gets to eat fresh fruit.
I hope I’ll be able to give my budgies the best life with the help of this website and Thank you for reading!
Hi Zoe, welcome back, your birds are lovely. In your post you refer to both of them as he but from what I can see on the picture you posted the bird on the right appears to be a female. On my computer the cere looks to be a pale bluish white, if that is the color in person then that bird is a female.
Welcome back to the forum, Zoe!
I agree with Cody - from the picture it does appear that Angel is a female.
Luckily you haven't had any problems with the two wanting to mate, I take it?
Did you get Angel recently or quite some time ago?
Since it appears you have a mixed gender pair, please be sure you do take the necessary steps to ensure that they do not breed.
No budgie should be bred once it reaches 4 years of age.
(I’m using my phone so hopefully I’m replying to this the right way) but WOW I have been trying to figure out if Angel was a boy or a girl forever. I was confused because I read somewhere thant only females who are younger than a year have light blue ceres. Thank ya’ll for clearing that up!
I’ve had Angel for about 2 years and she and Charlie have never tried to mate before but I did not know there were precautions I should take. I will definitely read up on it because I don’t know the signs.
To discourage breeding, you can rearrange their cage frequently, and limit the light they get to 8 hours a day.
Please be sure you never put a nest box or anything that could be used as a nesting site in their cage.
When they come into condition, limit the amount of protein in their diet at that time.
They are beautiful budgies and hopefully they'll continue to refrain from "getting frisky"
