Post Long time lurker, first time poster!

Hi there!

First of all I've been reading for a while here now and I want to say a big thank you to everyone here for years of help with my old budgie, Zari. Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to him at the end of September but these forums helped a lot in his later years (I had him for almost 15 years!!).

Now, a bit over a month later I've started a new adventure with a new feathered friend, Cloud! I got him yesterday and he seems to be settling in well. (I know he only has one clipped wing and after talking to someone at a pet supply store I'm considering taking him to get the other one matched, thoughts welcome! He is flying incredibly well.)

This is the first time I've had a budgie as a baby (I got Zari from a friend who no longer had time for him). I hope to hand train him and look forward to continue learning from you all!

Hi, Kat --

I'm sorry to hear you lost Zari back in September Having him for almost 15 years is a great testament to the wonderful care you gave him!

Cloud is a beautiful baby budgie boy!
I would not get Cloud's other wing clipped if he is flying well at this time. I don't believe in clipping a budgie's wings as having a fully flighted bird makes the bird much healthier and happier!

Looking forward to seeing you around the forum.
If you've been lurking for a long time you are probably already familiar with all the stickies and budgie articles.

Thanks for the advice on his wings! The person mentioned having them mismatched makes them prone to crashing but as he's appears to be doing okay I'll leave it and just let that one eventually grow out.

As Zari was tamed by his previous owner, I don't have much experience in that area so I've been reading up on the stickies in the Taming and Bonding section.

It has been nice to see Cloud start to relax over the last two days (I was relieved to witness him eating and going to his water dish) although a few times a day he will start to pace his cage and call to the wild birds outside. Hoping as he gets more used to me that stops.

Hi there and an official to Talk Budgies!!

It's great to have you on the forums and we look forward to seeing more of you and your little Cloud in the days to come.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Zari. Obviously he was very well loved and cared for to have lived for so long

Meanwhile, FaeryBee has provided above a general list of important stickies and articles in case you haven't read them all yet, so be sure to check them out! Of course, if you have any questions afterwards, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help.

We hope to see you around the forums!
