Smile Hi from Wally and me

Hello there from Atlantic Canada. It's a mild and rainy day - a good day to stay in and peruse the 'net'. I was looking at picture of budgies, trying to determine Wally's makeup. From comparisons, my best guess is grey opaline recessive pied. I am not an expert, but it's my best guess. He isn't all bright colours, but has such a bright personality. He's my 5th budgie (over years, not all recent).

I brought him home at 6 weeks. He will be 3 months on Dec 3rd. His wing feathers were clipped when I bought him home, which I guess was good - until he got used to his new environment. But, as they grow I will be glad to see him fly. He spends most of his time with me - preferring my shoulder (or head or glasses, or anything) to being on his own. He's super playful, likes to 'steal' things from me (an earring, a pen, etc) and loves to run away with something he nabs from the edge of my plate. Sometimes he gets a bit cranky and like any baby, that usually means it's nap time.

Well, I'll stop before I write a novel. Best wishes and a good weekend.

Catherine

Hi there and to the forums!

It's great to have you on the forums and you've come to a great place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices! Please be sure to read through the forums' many budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subform for easy reference) to stay updated on everything! If you have any questions after doing so, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Meanwhile, Wally is very cute! Make sure he's not chewing too long on the stuff he "steals", heavy metals can be toxic to budgies

Actually, he's not opaline, but you've got the rest of it right! He's a grey recessive pied budgie, and a very cute one at that

Hope to see you and Wally around!

Hi there! Thanks for the response and the advice.

So much good and interesting information. I may have a question or two but I will look around first, because I expect someone has answered it somewhere here.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend,

Best,
Catherine

Hi, Catherine
It's nice to have you with us. Wally is adorable and sounds like quite the little character.
Be careful that he doesn't manage to swallow one of your earrings as that could be a disaster!

Looking forward to seeing you and Wally around the forum. I'd love to see more pictures of him.

Hi. Thanks for the welcome. Before anyone else feels the need to advise me not to let Wally chew on metal or eat earrings.. Rest assured I am a very vigilant Budgie mama. I made sure the house was Budgie proofed before I brought him home. It's not my first budgie. That was Ricki, who lived to be 17. So, please don't worry that I'll let him choke. I appreciate that folks in this community love and care about budgies, and are generous in sharing knowledge. I'm also so happy to have a little feathered friend again.. as he sits on my fingers while I type. Happy December to all and best wishes from the heart.

How wonderful you had 17 years with Ricki. It sounds like you've been a great bird owner so far Often times we post things not only for the benefit of the original poster but also so that anyone who may not be as experienced reading the thread can get some information as well

I hope to see more of your little one!
