Default Found baby blue budgie(Houston Texas)

Hi, my family used to be budgie owners, and we had one that lived for 12 years before passing away in 2012.

I stopped posting on here right around her passing, and I moved to Houston Texas for school.

Fast forward to yesterday when I found this little guy outside my apartment complex. Nobody seemed to want to help him, so I took him in, and bought him a cage and food.

I live in an apartment complex on campus where animals are not allowed, but I can hold onto him temporarily.

I was wondering if anyone in Houston Texas area lost this guy, or if anyone thinks they would provide a better home for him.

It's difficult to estimate his age, but based on the fact that he's very quiet, and sleeps a lot suggests he's pretty young.

Here is a picture!

Hi there and welcome back to the forums!

I'm glad you have managed to rescue this budgie boy and are able to care for him while you find the owners or a potential new home.

By looking at the budgie, I'd say he is an adult and is at the very least 1 year old. The irises on his eye are already developed, he is showing the mature colour on his cere and he has also gone through his first moult.
The fact that he is sleeping a lot is likely due to the fact that he is tired from having been on the great outdoors. From the photo he seems to be in good shape and most likely he hasn't been on the streets for very long.

You can also place flyers on a found budgie around your neighbourhood and on nearby pet stores and vets. Advertising online can also prove helpful and you can check for ads on lost pet birds, because this budgie's owner may be looking for him.

I hope you will be able reunite this budgie with his human family. Best of luck!

Hi thanks for the feedback!

I know based on my previous experience that by now you would expect a budgie to be more vocal but he's super quiet.

I'm feeding him ecotrition grains & greens, he seems to only eat the big seeds. I will get some millet, as I know budgies love that.

He doesn't seem to like any kind of greens, which my previous budgies were big fans of.

Any other suggestions would be great!

Awww, what a cute little guy! Thank you for rescuing him.
I hope you will be successful in locating his owner.
I would contact all the nearby animal shelters to let them know you have him in case someone contacts them looking for him.

It's looking more and more like he won't be claimed! He's chirping tons and having a great time at my place, a few other girls in my building like taking him for a few days and watching him.

Are there any posters here in the Houston Texas area who would be willing to take him permanently? I would much rather pass him onto someone on this forum rather than a craigslist posting.

I went through a difficult time with our families last budgie who passed away after 12 years. The latter portion when she got sick was a really difficult time for me. My family was on vacation and I was alone and had to deal with her passing. I'm trying not to get too attached to this little guy.

I want to find him a good home!

Very sorry about your bird mate. You can give it to any pet store, They can give him food and a place to stay until someone comes and take him.
