airpirate is on a distinguished road
Default Baby yellow budgie

We have had very cold weather the last few nights lows at 30 degrees. Found this little guy at my feeder this am with the sparows eating like a little pig. As I approached him all the sparrows left but he stayed as I added more seed. I fed him several times and later I spotted him in a nearby shrub seeking shelter. I reached in and gently grabed him. He is now in a 74 degree home in a roomy cage. I hope he survives but dont know what to expect for a young bird that has spent a couple days at least in the cold and rain. I suspect he escaped froma nearby border flea market. But I sure hope he makes it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Ken and to the forums!

I'm so glad you were able to rescue this little guy. I'm glad he made it long enough for you to rescue him!

It's good to hear that he's doing well so far. He probably loves the warmth and abundance of food!

Keep an eye on him and if he shows signs of lethargy, heavy breathing, or stops having an appetite, you should take him to an avian vet. If you don't have avian vets in your area, often "Exotics Vets" treat birds.

Since he's been outside by himself, I would recommend taking him in anyways to ensure that he's healthy.

As he recovers from the ordeal, put up posters and ads stating that you have found a budgie, but don't describe him. If someone has lost a budgie, they can call/email you and describe him to you, so you know people aren't trying to get a free bird.

If you don't find his owners, will you be keeping this little one?

Meanwhile, you've come to the very best place to learn even more about budgies. Be sure to read through all the articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you have all the right information to care for this little one. A roomy cage is a great start!

If you have any questions after reading through everything, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help

We'd love to meet him when you get a chance!

Cheers!

Hi Ken, welcome to Talk Budgies .

You’ve been given great advice above. There must be someone missing such a tame bird. As you place ads for a lost bird, beware of people posing as the owner just to score a free pet.

In the event that no one comes forward to claim the budgie, you’ve come to the right place! Our Stickies threads located at the top of each forum section contain loads of of up-to-date useful information to keep Budgies happy and thriving. Also reading the Articles section, and going back into some older threads, you’ll find a ton of good info there too.

Good luck, and please keep us posted on what happens!
