Arrow [Warning - SADNESS] RIP "Hero" Cookie

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-s...wales-21368394

I was reading a news website, and i found this [Dated 7th Feb 2013] and i had to read it, and my heart was breaking...

This Cockatiel saved his owners life [Ben aged 17] when an incense stick he had lit caused a fire in his bedroom, of which Cookies perch was based.

I just wanted to share this story although Ben survived the fire, Cookie did not.

The bond these pair had was obviously very very strong, and my heart aches for Ben.

Cookie was very smart and brave and i thought Cookie deserved some much deserved recognition.

RIP Cookie, Fly free little one. May your actions never be forgotten.

That is sad... I am a bit confused as to why Cookie died though. Why couldn't the owner scoop him up and ran with him outside?

So very sad. Such a heroic bird. If that happened to me I would grab my little guy and run outside.

Such a sad end to this story, it's entirely possible that Cookie tried to follow him out but was overcome - birds have such sensitive respiratory systems. Sounds like Cookie was panicking just as much as he was, and may not have been able to be handled easily even if he'd been able to think of doing that in his panic. We can't second guess what people do in life-threatening situations, you never know how you will react.

RIP, Cookie - we remember your bravery and sacrifice!

I'd like to think he sacrificed himself to save his owner.

This story made me respect the intelligence of birds even more then i already did.

I love cockatiels. I think I want one. Cookie was adorable and Ben was so lucky to have him as a pet! RIP cookie.
