Default rip Apophis

I have no idea what happened. She was perfectly fine yesterday morning before I left for work, and when I got home she was gone, and had been for a while. Mum was home and heard nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm not sure how old she was. I think I got her five or six years ago; my other budgie had just passed away, and my brother made fun of me for being sad. Then he felt bad and bought me Apophis. That always made her special, because she was a present from my brother.

A few days ago she let me pet her for the first time since I got her. I should have known something was wrong, but she seemed perfectly healthy. She had just started coming out of the cage by herself as well, so I just thought she was getting more comfortable with me.

Yesterday morning I said goodmorning to everyone and gave a few headscritches, but she wasn't into being touched so I didn't push it. I went out with some coworkers for a bit so I got home about an hour later than usual and made some food before going into my room and saw one of the birds on the bottom of the cage. I had to call my mother in to see who it was (and scared her, because I just said 'come check the bird' and she thought it was Henry, because he's stupidly old) because I just.. couldn't. And it was Apophis.

She still had a piece of the toy she was playing with grasped in her foot. Mum checked around her neck to make sure the toy hadn't gotten caught (it was that dry grass stuff, not rope or cotton) but it hadn't and she had no marks on her from the others. She just.. died.

I don't even know what I'm supposed to feel right now. This was so sudden. But I had just been thinking a few days ago that it had been a while since I got her, and even took a few pictures of her. But I never expected this to happen.

Rest in peace Apophis.

It's almost always quite sudden when budgies pass. The most likely reason in this case is old age. My condolences.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. How awful and unexpected...

I know this is not an easy topic to talk about, but is having a necropsy done on Apophosis an option? This could provide some answers about why the little sweety died so suddenly...

Again, I'm so sorry.

Rest in peace little one...

I am so sorry that you had this happen. Not knowin why is a terrible feeling, to add to the overwhelming sadness that you already have.

On the (only) positive note - she was obviously playing when she passed, so at least she was having fun. Hold that thiought close.

She's flying high, pain free and in a beautiful plae now.

I am so sorry. I also just lost a bird and don't
know the reason. It's easy to blame yourself, but
don't. Rest in peace, little one...
