I'm surprised this morning how much this has affected me. A member of my family - no matter how small he was - is gone and I am so terribly sad.
I'm just glad he didn't die alone, he was held and loved and comforted as best we could.
When I got home from work last night I could tell it was almost time. He was fluffed up at the bottom perch in his cage and was trying very hard not to move at all. When I picked him up, he cuddled very close to my neck where it was warm and dozed off and on for about a half hour, and then suddenly he had a seizure and was gone.
Edda has been very quiet - I think she knows her former cage-mate has left us. This morning she was very clingy. We will give her extra attention for the next weeks to make sure she knows everything is OK.
