Unhappy Help? Colin suddenly died.

On Wednesday evening I came home and found my budgie Colin dead on the bottom of his cage. I'm absolutely devistated. He was only around 18 months old. He seemed no different in his behaviour at all. I believe he may have died on the early hours of Wednesday morning through the night as I didn't check on the budgies on Wednesday morning before work but I specifically remember not hearing them talk on Wednesday which they usually do hence believing he died early hours. His body was beneath is perch on the floor and his feet were curled up like they had been gripping the perch.. Does this mean he may have died in his sleep? His neck was really floppy was his neck broken? He was so young and showed no signs of ill health.

My other budgie snowy his mate is really depressed. She won't eat or play with the toys and she often just sits where Colin used to sit. She just sits with her eyes closed. She sqwaked really loud when I took Colin out of the cage when he died. She knew he was dead. Is there anything I can do to help her? I've only had snowy 4 months she was only really bought as a friend for Colin so we never bonded. She's not really used to me so when I give her attention she's not interested and often anxious. She is depressed but shall I rehome her? I've never bonded with her like I did with Colin so It wouldn't upset me rehoming her. I don't want another budgie as it would never compare to Colin.

Also I'm really sad I've cried the past three nights since he died. He was my baby. I miss him so bad the house feels silent and empty without him. Hes only a budgie so why am I so upset? When will I stop feeling sad?

R.I.P mr Colin love you always xxx

I'm so so sorry to hear about your dear Colin. Its normal to feel upset over losing a pet. When I lost my female Hen who was 5 1/2 years old, it was devastating for not only my male Budgie who she left behind, but for me and my hubby as well. I couldnt sleep for nights and my poor Bubu was so sad too. I ended up getting him a new friend because like you, Bubu is my favorite budgie and I didnt want him to be depressed. Bubu loves us so much and we love him like he is our baby. He is very bonded to us and his new friend will never replace his first love, but at least he has a companion flock mate to hang out with sometimes. I havent bonded with the new Hen nor has he really but he is much happier not being alone. So I think if you are not going to get another friend for Snowy, it would be best to rehome her but ONLY rehome her to another person who already has budgies because it would be worse to rehome her to someone who wont love her as much as you loved Colin. So i'd be cautious and interview people before deciding on a home. I know some other people who dont understand how much love a budgie can bring us humans, would think we are strange, but here on this forum, we are all the same as you! So please whatever you decide to do, just know we are here for you!

Fly high and free sweet Colin budgie.

I am so sorry to hear about Colin. There could be many reasons why they die suddenly.
Heart attack or sudden stroke perhaps.
Snowy will miss Colin and mourn for him. She will look for him because she doesn't understand why he isn't there. Comfort her as best you can and spend time with her.
Give her a chance to know you and bond with you. You might see a whole new Snowy before you know it.
We are all here to help you through this sad time.
Again I am very sorry for your loss. Those little guys can leaved a huge hole in our heart.
Rest in peace little Colin.

I am so sorry to hear of your sudden loss of little Colin. I know it is hard to explain our attachment to them, but each and every one has a different personality, and are special in their own way. Only fellow budgie owners would understand that. I hope you and Snowy might share a bonding time because I know you are both in pain. Hugs to you both - I trust you will do what feels right. And know that your little Colin is flying free, high above - and watching over you.

Very sorry to hear that Colin died! It makes sense that you would be so sad, and Snowy too! Be gentle with yourself. Lots of good advice and support here.

In my research I have read that it can be possible to bond with and tame even older birds. I don't know what that is like though. So maybe wait and see what feels right and what you can commit to with Snowy.

I am so very sorry for your loss of your darling little Colin. That would have been quite the shock as it was not expected at all. I can relate as my budgie Phoenix died unexpectedly about three weeks ago and I was just devastated...

I know this can be difficult to think about, but you may find closure by having a necropsy done. This may help determine why your little sweetheart died... I am not sure what to even suggest as to the cause of death of such a young budgie...

I'm so sorry sweety. We are here for you.

Fly high and free Colin...
