In a sudden turn of events, Cleo's health took a turn for the worst. Her intestinal infection must not have been completely healed by the antibiotics, although I was guranteed her health by the pet store who took her to the vet. She had gotten better the past few days, but was still lethargic. I thought it just part of the recovery process. I went to check on her last, night, and found her puffed up on the floor of her cage. I tried putting her up on a perch, but she could only put one leg on before falling to the bottom. Fearing that she was hurt, I reached my hand in and picked her up. She calmly layed in my hand, and I knew her time was near. It was 12:30 in the morning, so no vet was open. I cried for her, and called the emergency pet hospital. They said that it was too late to save her and that I should just make her comfortable. She was shaking and her breathing was labored. I gave her some head scritches and stroked her feathers. At 3:30 this morning, my brave little girl died in my hands.
NEVER buy your birds from Petco or Petsmart! I will never buy any pets from there again! They keep their birds in terrible conditions where they can get serious infections and diseases! The staff knows little about budgies and gave my bird a clean bill of health, when obviously there was something seriously wrong. DO NOT support big chain pet stores, go to a BREEDER where they know what they're talking about.
I am so sorry you lost your little one, I think the chain pet stores vary widely in the care of their birds/fish/pets, depending on the staff. The staff are not vets and should not of declared your bird healed... Check out the birds when purchasing one as even breeders vary widely in quality... Sadly some are just in it for the $$ and will pump out inferior birds... I hope you find a great breeder with quality birds that is in it for the love of the birds!
I'm so very sorry to hear that Cleo gone on.
It's especially sad when they are so young,
as I find myself grieving for not only the loss
of that dear little bird, but for what could
have been and should have been as well.
She was a lucky little bird to have known
love in your gentle hands, even if it was for
such a short time.
I am so sorry you've lost your dear
little bird. You will be very much in my
thoughts today. I hope that when the
time is right you will try again to find a
little bird to love and share your home.
Good homes are too important to let
them stand idle for too long

aww poor little girl It really does depend on where you go, we ended up being lucky with getting Shrimp from Petco. So far, she is a healthy happy little birdy, which I'm glad because we got her in place of a little Rosey Bourke that we got from a breeder and she passed away after 3 weeks of having her. Sometimes you just never know RIP little Cleo
I'm so sorry to hear about Cleo. I know it is very hard, but you did everything you could to help her. Unfortunately sometimes they are very good at hiding just how sick they are. Bless you for making her short life better than if you had left her there. She knew you loved her so much, her body was just not strong enough any more. Fly high and free, sweet Cleo.
