Chicken Nugget passed away. He had a habit of squeezing himself through the bars when I wasn't home to explore and he got himself caught. He must have struggled pretty hard, because he broke his poor neck.
I found him on the floor, scared half to death but unable to move. I picked him up and held him. He snuggled into my hands and I could feel something was wrong with him. I put him under my chin and he snuggled into my neck, sat there for a moment, and died.
I just am glad it was quick, because he was clearly suffering. I love him to pieces and he will be missed and was basically the best bird ever.
It's really unfortunate you had him in a cage with bars spaced far enough apart that he could squeeze between them - especially if you knew he was capable of doing so.
Budgies should never be kept in cages with bars spaced more than 1/2" apart for that very reason.
Fly high and free sweet Chicken Nugget; rest peacefully now little man.
The thing is, they are properly spaced. He just apparently found ways to get out. He had been doing that since he could move around as a baby no matter what cage he was in, and... I guess this time he just got stuck. I can't even find where he got stuck at. :/ The only thing I can find is a few feathers on his perches...
