I've been doing a bit of research, asking family some questions. And I found out about my late mother's budgie.
His name was Huey. He was a little blue male. She got him, and while she lived at her Mother's, my Grandmother's, he hung from a long chain on the ceiling, in a nice cage. He had food and water and grit... And she always gave him apple slices. He had a few toys, and his favorite was a mirror. He was not tame, but loved to sing. When there was company, he would screech till she covered his cage. He would fly around the room on cleaning days, obviously happy.
He lived a long healthy life with good care. I believe he lived into his very early teens.
When my Mother came to my Father's house, he hung in a nice sunny window that never got hot. He chirped a lot, and was a good little pet. Never tame, but still cute. One day when my Grandmother was over (other side of family grandma), she walked out of the room. When she came back a little later, Huey was gone.
I have a faint memory of Huey, amazing as I was only a tad over two when he died. There are pictures of my Dad holding me as I look at the cage and Huey. Someday, I plan to buy a little blue male and name it Huey, as a memior to the little bird. I never would have thought of budgies, but my late Mother had one, and I thought it would be a small connection to a lost loved one.
Rest in Peace, dear little Huey. Know that you were loved, little bird. Fly free, though this memory is late, know you will always be remembered.
