Default Zazu and Schnappi

In the last day or so, two of our members had birds succumb to a prolapsed oviduct. An unfortunate coincidence. I am sure we all offer condolences to them in this time. You can read more about the details in this thread https://talkbudgies.com/showthread.ph...846#post160846

I was so very sad to read the thread regarding dear Zazu and Schnappi.

RIP little ones, you were very much loved and are missed dreadfully.

Unhappy RIP Schnappi

It was a very difficult weekend. Schnappi is in heaven now, playing with Zazu.

She was the most entertaining bird that I have ever seen. Once again, here is the video that made her famous around the world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okZS5aVbttU
Unfortunately, what made her so entertaining was also our biggest problem. She had no fear and was always looking for a place to lay eggs which killed her in the end. I was always afraid that she wouldn't live long.

She did have 9 lives and used them all up. When I first had her she got an ear infection. Her head was all twisted. It was amazing that she survived that with only a slight disability. (She could not sit straight). She was always sickly and we visited the vet many times.
She could have died when she went into the kettle for the first time. I had no idea she was in there

She was almost killed when she crawled under my husband at the breakfast table. Recently she got caught between the dishwasher and the countertop. Then I left the screen door sligthly open. A cat came in under the curtains and headed for Schnappi who was sitting on my husband's toes. I managed to chase the cat back out. In a way, I am glad that she did not die when we would have been completely at fault.

This is the bird that started out as "N*gg*er when she belonged to the neighbour's kid. I was very happy when he got tired of her and didn't pick her up after a vacation. She only had 3 years, but she did a lof of living in that short time.

No more vet visits, no more pain for my little Schnappi

Oh wow... I'm so sorry... Reading that thread brought tears to my eyes. I hope that you can find a mate for Snoopy, and I offer my condolences.

Rest in Peace, Zazu and Schnappi...

Default Thank you

Thank you for your kind words.
It was devestating to lose Schnappi in this terrible way at such a young age.
And now we have to see Snoopy get sadder by the day.
That's why we went to a nearby shelter and adopted another budgie that needed a home. It was the only one I could find at a shelter, so the decision was easy.
He is in quarantine now. I hope Snoopy can hang in there a while longer.
She won't come out of her cage and doesn't fly any more. It is so sad. I lost a pet, but she lost her life partner. We have to help her....
Sunday, we'll take the new bird to the vet. After the lab results are back the two can meet....hopefully,

Sigrid

Thank you to everyone one as well for your kind words and condolences.

I miss Zazu very much and the house feels so lonely. Sometimes, I feel like I can still hear her whistling away. I miss coming home to her chirping in excitement to see me. These little creatures are so amazing. I'm just so lucky that she gave me 6 great years. I begged God to give her a couple of more years because I knew that she at least deserved that much, after all the pain and suffering. Unfortunately, it didn't work that way but the world is lucky to have had her in it - I know that much. She made such a difference in my life and I will never, ever forget her. She is one of my best friends.

People ask me why don't I get another bird? and I guess I feel bad because it feels like I would be replacing her. But a mentor of mine who has cats said that when her last cat died, she felt the same way. But you have to realize that you're not replacing your beloved pet. Every animal has a different personality, just like people and you will always keep the memories of your pet with you. Getting another one doesn't mean that you're replacing them, but that you're gaining a new friend, a new family member. I believe she is right. But right now, I don't think I'm ready to get another budgie. I have definitely been thinking about it for the future though. We'll see how it goes.

Sigrid, best of luck with Snoopy and her new companion. I know that she must be feeling so sad and lonely without Schnappi but I'm sure that soon, she will adjust to her new friend and be happy again.

Thanks, once again, to all of you who have posted. Very much appreciated.

- Larissa
