Unhappy See you on the other side!

Hello fellow budgie owners, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.. And unfortunately it has a sad story to tell...

I bought two young budgies last December, just before the New Year, a male called Kico & a female called Bubi. Both were in very good health, but two days ago, Bubi started scratching her head constantly, she hardly slept that night. She scratched it so hard that she started bleeding! Not only that, but she first vomited half-digested red goo, which was stuck in her mouth, but Kico helped her get it out. Then whenever she tried to eat, after 2 minutes she started spitting out undigested seeds. So being in this condition I've decided to take to the vet ASAP.

We paid a visit to the vet yesterday (I took both budgies to the vet). The vet took out Bubi, who tried to bite the vet (the vet actually felt REALLY painful even with surgical gloves on, so the other vet had to give her a really thick leather glove to bite on ). Anyway, they cleaned her head that was all bloody with Hydrogen, and they told me she just "caught a cold" and gave me an antibiotic & some vitamins to put in their water. Here's where everything got worse...

She seemed well after the visit that afternoon, but she suddenly got even worse last night. Both budgies were on their swings the whole night. Bubi refused to eat or drink her meds, which was I think crucial for what's about to happen later. Since both are not tame (especially Bubi), she would run away as soon as you attempt to reach out even a single finger near her. But she was so weak that she didn't react to ANYTHING, not even on Kico who stayed by her side all the time (he tried to feed her, gave her scratches..). She kept her eyes closed all the time and she was all puffed up. I feared she might die during the night, so I stayed awake and I hardly got any sleep last night.

Today, I heard her fall down to the bottom of the cage, exactly 5 min before 10AM. She survived the night, but was dying fast. Kico was still on his swing and was totally confused what was going on with Bubi. I took her out of the cage, wrapped her in a small towel, took her to the smallest room in my house and turned on the A/C to make the room really warm. The same vet that examined her yesterday told me on the phone to manually give her the antibiotic that she gave me yesterday (mixed with water). But by the time I made the mix it was too late. She died while I was giving her a rub on the head.

I can't describe to you how depressed, angry and confused I am... I had a real nice cry before I went to sleep for an hour, and after that I came here to write this to you. Kico doesn't seem like he's missing her although she's missing from the cage just about 4-5 hours now. I am baffled at how the vet gave a wrong diagnosis although I told him what she was experiencing. I can't get these questions out of my mind:

How did the vet gave a totally wrong diagnosis?
How's it possible that she died just after around 10 months since I got her?

And the most important question of all: Did I do something wrong that caused her to die? Is there anything more that I could have done to save her? If ANYONE has any questions regarding Bubi's look, health, behaviour etc please post it, because I would like to figure out why she died so young!

It was incredibly difficult for me to write all this, with tears in my eyes, and with some feeling of guilt if I had caused her to die although I can't recall doing anything wrong or out of the ordinary. SO BUBI REST IN PEACE AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE!

I am so so sorry marko. I can image what you are going through. i had a baby from a breeder for 4 days when she passed. she seemed healthy when i got her and was flying around the house happy as can be. When i came home from work she was gone i felt the same way...did i do something wrong? ..you can't blame yourself you did the right thing going to the vet. Can i as if it was an avian vet? Bubi RIP - fly high little one!

I'm so sorry for your loss... I know how hard it is to lose such a beloved little one.
For Bubi to be regurgitating blood, she must have been really sick for a while, unfortunately budgies are very good at hiding illnesses and your Bubi hid it quite well till it was too late and she could no longer take it.
You did the right thing in taking her to the vet and given her condition, she should have stayed there in observation. You must not blame yourself, you gave Bubi the best care possible and a loving home.
Hopefully with time the hole you have now left in your heart will be filled with the good times and happy memories you have of Bubi.

Rest in peace, little Bubi. You were much loved and will be missed.

You should wash and disinfect the cage she was in. Also a vet check for your remaining budgie is also in order, because the illness may be contagious.
I hope you and Kico will be alright.

So sorry for your loss. It's not your fault, you did everything you could. It sounds like the vet didn't really know what was wrong. I don't know why it's so hard to find good avian vets. I'm sorry for your pain.

I'm so sorry for your loss Marco, you did all you could for Bubi please don't blame yourself, these little guys are so good at hiding their illnesses, even to the point where there's nothing to be done to help them. That picture is adorable, treasure those memories.

RIP sweet Bubi, fly high and free little one

I am so very sorry for your loss.. It is not your fault please don't blame yourself.. Budgies hide there illness ... You are a good budgie owner and we no you loved your budgie very much try to remember all of the cherished memories as they will be in your heart forever.. It will be hard for a while. You must not blame yourself you gave Bubi the best of care and a loving home... You have a lot of love in your heart to give.. I am so very sorry this happened...

Rest in peace, little Bubi. Fly high in the Sky over the Rainbow.

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

There was nothing you could do. YOu had done everything you could, without hesitation. There is no point beating yourself up about it. I know how hard that can be, but you did everything you could. She died in the arms of someone who loved her and took care of her, to the very end. It ereally isnt your fault, your a very good owner who cares for the smallest of creatures. Remember, there is another budgie you have to care for, focus on him. Fly free little one, you will be forever remembered.
