Default Goodbye Birbir

Birbir passed away on Saturday suddenly. We left the house at around noon, came home at 3 and he was on the bottom of the cage. We rushed him to the animal hospital but it was too late. We only had him a couple of months. We even took him to an Avian vet who did many tests that showed he was healthy.

Do budgies die that quickly? that morning he was fine, eating, playing, etc.

I wish I know what happened, I feel like it was something I did. I feel so depressed and now I probably won't be able to get another bird.

A few days before he seemed really affectionate, would let us hold him...is that a sign?

I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. It looks like you did everything you could have possibly done.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, yes, it is possible for things like this to happen as quickly as they did. Budgies are such small creatures that sometimes illnesses overtake them in a very short timeframe. The apparent tameness could very well have been a result of your little guy not feeling well.

Have you considered getting a necropsy done to find out the cause of death? That would be the only way to know what happened.

Again, I am so sorry to hear about this. You only had the little guy for a short time, but the bond is still so strong. Time will help heal.... Chin up; you did everything you could under the circumstances.

I am very sorry about the death of Birbir. It is not common for a person to lose a bird that quickly unless an illness was already present. Birds hide their illness very well and that is why we inform people of quarantine for the first 30 days they bring their bird home. If a person places a new bird with the others right away, then the others could be infected with the illness too and then they are all at risk.

I agree with Budgiekin, you surely didn't do anything to cause Birbir's death. Things like this happen, but most Budgies live at least 5 years (and maybe much longer) if they are fed a good balanced diet and are well cared for.

I just lost the very first Budgie I bought (this morning) so I am grieving also. My Budgie had been with me for almost a year and that's not a very long time either.

Please don't lose heart . . . Not all Budgies die this quickly. It sounds like you did exactly what you could by taking Birbir to the Vet when you first bought him and then you took him back to the vet when you saw that he was dying. You did all you could do and my heart goes out to you.

RIP Birbir . . .

Donna
