Unhappy Joy passed yesterday :(

After seeing the vet, they put her on antibiotics and seperated her from Tinsel in to a 2nd cage. She seemed like she was getting better. But I found her on the floor of her cage yesterday morning. I feel awful. Tinsel seems to be fairing ok so far, just keeps calling. I am guessing she is looking for Joy.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this... It's not easy to see them go so soon, I'm sure Joy appreciates all the love and care you provided during her short stay with you. I know it takes some time to heal, but I hope you and Tinsel will feel better soon.
Rest in peace, Joy. You will be missed.

Be sure to give extra attention to Tinsel and bond more with her. If you feel she would fare better with a friend, then get her one if you can. Just don't forget to quarantine first.

I need to get Tinsel's wings clipped as I am not comfortable doing it myself. I would have had it done already but Joy's vet visit wiped me out in funds with it being right after the holidays and all.

But once I do, I am going to try to re hand tame her and bond with her.

I just hate that Joy was only with us a few weeks. Poor baby.

I wish people would stop looking at animals as throw away objects. I don't agree with giving animals as gifts, thats how I got Tinsel & Joy. But anyone who would have looked at Joy could have seen something was a little off. But instead of doin a little research they just pass them on to the next person w/o saying a word about the issue and then letting it be someone elses problem.

My vet said she had been sick for quite awhile. Not just over night.

Rest in Peace, sweet beautiful Joy. Keep her cute face and happy song close to your heart, and she will be with you forever. They leave us much too soon, but you gave her what she needed most, your love and good care. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss... Joy surely was a great budgie... you have to bond more now with Tinsel and give her some more attention...
I got this Christmas a budgie as a gift.. I agree with your opinion, birds shouldn't be treated as disposable pets, they should have given more attention by the pet stores and the owners. Especially when there are signs of illness...
Giving them as gifts is not wrong in my opinion.

It's one thing to give a budgie as a gift if the person you intend to give the bird to has expressed interest in wanting one or already owns one. Or has owned them in the past. But my brother found Tinsel & Joy on craigslist for free. And because I had mentioned to my mom like 6 mths ago that I had thought about maybe getting a few finches some day because I had owned them before, he gifted them to me. Now while I appreciate the thought and the gesture of the gift, I was not prepared to care for birds. I am in the process of trying to find a job as I am out of work. I just think giving pets as gifts to an unprepared person is a bad idea.

But I love Tinsel and loved Joy, so I will do my best to care for Tinsel and if I ever find myself unable to, I will find a GOOD home for her with someone who will care for Tinsel properly and not just pass her along to the first person who expresses interest.
